Purpose Tourism 2025 – Growing Value Together/ Whakatipu Uara Ngatahi is a framework to unite New Zealand's large and diverse tourism industry and ignite strong, aspirational economic growth. Its goal is to see the tourism industry contribute $41 billion a year to the New Zealand economy by 2025, up from $24 billion now. • Water, Wind, Wood, and Trees

    Open Access•WAYNE D ERSKINE, MICHAEL J SAYNOR et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Research•2012•References: 35

Recent Australian research has quantified the role of large wood (wood of any origin and length with a diameter greater than 0.1 m) in dissipating stream energy, forming pool habitats by local bed scour, protecting river banks from erosion, and damming rivers with long rafts causing avulsions. Large wood in Australian streams is sourced by a range of processes from the nearby riparian zone which has usually been degraded by post‐European settleme…

  • Micro‐Basins on Slopes in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Australia

Open Access•S J Riley, Steve Riley et al.•ARTICLE•Singapore Journal of Tropical…•1997

The development of micro‐basins on quartzite ridges in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Australia, is presented. It is suggested that micro‐basin development depends on the complex interaction of tree growth and decay, rock fabric and termite activity. The micro‐basins have a role in the morphological development of slopes on the quartzite

    Open Access•Steve Riley•ARTICLE•Review of African Political Economy•1997•Cited by: 8•References: 1

West Africa has seen a number of attempted and successful coup d'etats in the 1990s led by relatively junior officers and 'other ranks' who have claimed populist or transformatory goals on assuming office but have failed to live up to these early expectations. Such coups are described by Jimmy Kandeh as a product of the 'militariat', a social group within the military who lack the clientelist ties of more senior officers (Kandeh, 1996). The regim…

  • Urban stormwater design

    S J Riley, Steve Riley et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Geographer•1986•Cited by: 1•References: 4

Severe flooding in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney resulting from the 8 November 1984 storm, one of the most intense recorded in Sydney, illustrated the limitations and problems of stormwater drainage in the area. Many of the flood problems can be traced to piped systems which are meant to fail (surcharge) during high intensity storms or failed because of inlet blockage. Residents do not appear to understand that such systems do fail and hence tak…
