  • Geography, Science and Knowledge of the World

Open Access•Antonio Ignacio Molina Marín•CHAPTER•The Cambridge Companion to…•2024

Although Alexander’s campaign has received less attention than it might from the perspective of geographical studies, the image of Alexander himself as an explorer has, paradoxically, enjoyed great success in the modern historiography. This is partly to be explained by the widespread belief that Aristotle had a great influence on his student. From this perspective, the image of Alexander as an intellectual and a friend of knowledge fits perfectly…

  • Heracles and the Mastery of Geographical Space

Antonio Ignacio Molina Marín•CHAPTER•Oxford Handbook of Heracles•2021

The myth of Heracles was modified through the ages and rewritten in accordance with the needs of each period. Given that Heracles was a liminal hero, every time the limits of the world were extended, the spaces Heracles was believed to have reached changed too. Heracles is not satisfied with merely knowing and observing the inhabited world, with controlling it through knowledge; rather, he is a transformer and an alterer of spaces. More than an e…

  • Under the shadow of Eratosthenes

Antonio Ignacio Molina Marín•CHAPTER•Routledge Companion to Strabo•2017

Eratosthenes turned all the geographical details into sphragides in order to create and give a new shape to the oikoumene. Eratosthenes was, along with Hipparchus, Polybius and Posidonius, one of the ancient geographers who most influenced Strabo's Geography. There are sev…

  • Póthos y musas. El anhelo de los reyes de Macedonia

    Open Access•Antonio Ignacio Molina Marín•ARTICLE•Minerva•2017•References: 5

    Open Access•Antonio Ignacio Molina Marín•ARTICLE•Gladius•2014•References: 23
