    Rhomaia were competitive festivals organized and celebrated by Greek cities in honor of the goddess Roma, during the late Hellenistic and early imperial periods. They were an integral part of the cult of the personified city of Rome after its emergence as the leading power in the eastern Mediterranean and constituted the religious confirmation of the relations of confidence, friendship, and alliance between the Roman state and the Greek world.
