  • Consortium‐Based Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement for Long Covid Research

    Open Access•Linzy Houchen‐Wolloff, Joanna Bell et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2026

BACKGROUND: At the start of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in early 2020, the long-term outcomes for survivors of COVID-19 were unknown. The PHOSP-COVID cohort study was set up at scale and pace in Spring 2020 to determine the short- to long-term health consequences of COVID-19 in post-hospitalisation survivors; to understand the impact of interventions during and after the acute illness on these long-term sequelae and to build …

  • Exhibition curation as practice-as-research performance historiography

    Open Access•Kate Holmes•ARTICLE•Studies in Theatre and Performance•2024

Taking an interdisciplinary approach to information-led exhibitions focused on performance can be considered practice-as-research historiography if curation is engaged with as praxis. Approaching exhibition curation as research praxis is a knowledge-making process, reconfiguring exhibitions as far more than a ‘pathway to impact’ designed at securing a grant. I examine the relationship between risk, morality and pleasure in Léotard’s celebrity using newspaper reports and imagery, demonstrating how his celebrity reveals changing attitudes to the body. Audiences evaluated his performances depending on how they valued …

  • Aspirational circus glamour

    Open Access•Kate Holmes•ARTICLE•Early Popular Visual Culture•2017•References: 2

In this article, the author challenges the designation of circus and circus disciplines, including aerial performance, as grotesque. The term ‘glamour’ was used in inter-war newspaper reports and more accurately describes circus in this period. The fundamental difference between the two concepts relies on the experience generated in the audience: glamour is aspirational whereas the grotesque provokes derision. It is likely they have been confused…

  • Crafting a future online

Open Access•Kate Holmes, Rachel McLean et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Systems and…•2012

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to gain a deeper understanding of how independent craftspeople adopt and use social media (SM) in order to promote their creative enterprise. However, some of these opportunities may place a demand for specific knowledge, business and technical skills on untrained artists. The purpose of this paper is to look into this emerging phenomena, the challenges and opportunities it presents and to propose solutions or…
