Non-reversible geosystem destabilisation at 4200 cal. BP
A 144-cm-long core was obtained in Lake Petit (2200 m a.s.l., Mediterranean French Alps) in order to reconstruct past interactions between humans, the environment and the climate over the last five millennia using a multidisciplinary approach involving sedimentological, geochemical and botanical analyses. A Gallo-Roman lime producing workshop at Sivry-Courtry, 12 km east of Melun, has been studied as part of the research preceding the construction of the A5 motorway. The workshop, situated within a small settlement on the banks of a tributary of the Seine, consists of two kilns located within limestone quarries.
