Entering Malinowski’s tent
This is a personal history spanning a 50-year trajectory in applied anthropology. I focus on the human nature of the discipline and the foundational role of “Natives” as both subjects and contributors. I also review borderlands research and the ethical and moral principles of anthropological collegiality and community responsibility.

In addition to examining the formal and informal steps taken by these applicants to learn about citizenship and the naturalization process, the article focuses on how the decision to naturalize fits into the larger life histories of these applicants.
