Co-occurrence network analysis of urban acoustic environments
The character of an urban acoustic environment does not arise from individual sounds in isolation, but from their complex interactions. Current source-focused approaches reduce acoustic environments to inventories of sounds, overlooking the relational patterns that shape them. Here, we introduce a graph-theoretical framework that shifts the focus from ‘what is present’ to ‘how it connects’, quantifying the co-occurrence structure of urban soundsc…
Holocene Aridity-Induced Interruptions of Human Activity along a Fluvial Channel in Egypt’s Northern Delta
Geoarchaeological information presented here pertains to a subsidiary Nile channel that once flowed west of the main Sebennitic distributary and discharged its water and sediments at Egypt’s then north-central deltaic coast. Periodical paleoclimatic episodes during the later Middle and Upper Holocene included decreased rainfall and increased aridity that reduced the Nile’s flow levels and thus likely disrupted nautical transport and anthropogenic…
Preliminary results on the paleo-landscape of Tell Basta /Bubastis (eastern Nile delta)
The sacred canals of the Temple of Bastet at Bubastis (Egypt)
This contribution highlights recent findings of geomorphological and geophysical investigations that were undertaken at the excavation site of Bubastis (Eastern Nile Delta, Egypt) in order to find evidence of the existence and location of the sacred canals of Bubastis that were described by Herodotus in the 5th century BCE. None of the preceding archaeological missions have reported remains of these canals. Drilling and sediment analyses in 2018 …
