  • Shaping Good Faith

Francesco Mari, Christian Wendt•EDITOR•BOOK•Shaping Good Faith•2021

The instauration of a bond of good faith between the parties played a crucial role in ancient diplomatic agreements. On the one hand, ancient authors often highlight the multi-faceted character of good faith and the ambiguities that marked many of the ritual practices used to create it. • Politeness, gender and the social balance of the Homeric household

    Francesco Mari•ARTICLE•Journal of Historical Pragmatics•2019•References: 23

This paper focusses on the role of women within the Homeric household (οἶκος, “oikos”) as related to politeness. The social balance of the household has its fulcrum in the relation between the householder and his wife, and the latter has a crucial role in preserving the face of her husband and hence his authority in the oikos. In practice, to preserve his public image within the oikos, householders delegate a core part of their authority to their…

  • L’arco di Ulisse. Osservazioni sul riconoscimento dell’eroe

Nicola Cucuzza, Francesco Mari•ARTICLE•L antiquité classique•2017•Cited by: 1

  • The stranger on the threshold. Telemachus welcomes Athena in Odyssey 1.102–143

    Francesco Mari•ARTICLE•Journal of Politeness Research•2016

Homeric epics are rich in paradigmatic scenes, where it is not inappropriate to look for examples of Greek polite social behaviour. This paper proposes an analytical framework to study ancient Greek politeness, and applies it to a famous scene of the

Blood and urine samples were taken from patients admitted to five Emergency Rooms (ER) in metropolitan Florence, Italy, due to road traffic accidents within 3 hours of the accident. Seven hundred and thirty-five patients were tested to determine if alcohol and illicit drugs (amphetamines, opiates, cocaine, methadone, and ca…
