Examining the role of structural change in income inequality
This study analyzes the relationship between manufacturing sector dynamics and income inequality in the United States for the period 1965Q1-2019Q4 using the Quantitative Autoregressive Distributed Lag (QARDL) model. Analyses controlled for urbanization, economic growth, and human capital variables revealed results consistent with the inverted U-shaped Kuznets curve. The key finding is that an increase in the manufacturing sector's share of employ…
Casting shadows of progress
This study analyses and compares the environmental implications of structural change in a deindustrialized (the United States) and a late industrialized (China) nation. We contribute to the literature by performing a quantile-on-quantile analysis from 1965 to 2019. We examine the heterogeneous effect on the environment in the United States and China. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to examine and compare the effect of struct…
Evaluating a pathway for environmental sustainability
With the efforts of the United Nations, environmental sustainability is becoming the subject of countries. Policymakers and researchers closely follow the environmental dimensions of Sustainable Development Goals. This study offers a new perspective for the European Union economies by directly targeting SDG 9 and considers environmental sustainability policies in selecting variables. To be more precise, this study probes the effects of economic g…
The determinants of demand for tourism in Turkey
This paper investigates the impacts of potential determinants of demand for tourism in Turkey through Markov Regime Switching-Vector Auto Regression (MS-VAR) estimations from 1999 to 2017 on monthly data. The determinants are income level, exchange rates and the threat of terror incidences. The terror variable, following the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2017 report, is calculated for Turkey by the author. This research has conducted two separate …
