The Climate Is Changing and the President Is Not’: ‘Non-Political’ Climate Activism in Russia
Using the ‘Fridays for Future’ movement in Russia as a case study, this article asks how ‘civil’ society movements ‘avoid politics’ under growing authoritarianism when dealing with ‘politics’ becomes unavoidable. While activists refrain from voicing ‘political’ demands to avoid repression by the regime, they come to understand that their goals are unachievable unless they address broader ‘political’ issues. Political agency of children in the new sociology of childhood and beyond
The article is a review of theoretical discussions about children's agency in the new sociology of childhood, on the one hand, and a review of empirical studies of children's political agency, on the other. These two fields often discuss the same problem, but look at it from different perspectives. Childhood theorists debate what children's agency is and whether the search for it should be critical. Some of them continue to postulate the need to …

Collective cognitive tasks as a method for studying political reasoning
In the recent years, the logic underlying citizens’ political reasoning has become an important area of inquiry. Scholars argue that understanding the structure of political reasoning—that is, the logic citizens follow to combine and apply ideas—might be as vital as understanding the political beliefs and preferences of citizens in explaining how people make sense of politics. The article reviews the methodological approaches in recent research o…
Active citizens under Eighteen: Minors in political protests
There is currently much public debate around the possibilities of political participation for minors. Although the West has historically evolved to perceive children as not developed enough to participate in politics, adolescence remains an ambivalent period between childhood and adulthood. This article investigates the question of how adolescents may participate in politics when the latter is associated primarily with the realm of adulthood. The…
