  • Classification and influencing factors of depression and anxiety progression during and after the Covid-19 pandemic

    Open Access•Seong-Eun Jeon, Seunghyong Ryu et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2025•References: 4

This study aimed to classify latent profiles based on the temporal progression of depression and anxiety during and after the COVID-19 pandemic and explored factors influencing these trajectories. An online survey was conducted with 497 South Korean individuals aged 19 to 69 years in three rounds: the first half of 2020 (Round 1), the second half of 2020 (Round 2), and the first half of 2023 (Round 3). A growth mixture model categorized latent pr…

  • Association between suicidal ideation and cognitive function in young patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder

    Open Access•Jisu Kim, Ji-Su Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Our results suggest that along with traditional risk factors, better cognitive function may also be a major risk factor for suicidality in patients with schizophrenia. Providing psychological support and cognitive interventions is essential for young patients with recent-onset schizophrenia spectrum disorders, particularly those with high levels of depression, hopelessness, perceived stress, low resilience, and good cognitive function

  • Covid-19 vaccine acceptance and related behavioral and psychological characteristics in individuals with mental disorders in Korea

Open Access•Seunghyong Ryu, Hangoeunbi Kang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

The present study demonstrated that individuals with mental disorders were generally willing to receive COVID-19 vaccination. However, they weighed its need and effectiveness against potential side effects before coming to a decision. It is important to understand the behavioral and psychological characteristics associated with vaccine acceptance, to effectively communicate its importance to individuals with mental disorders

  • Age-specific associations between serum cholesterol levels and suicidal behaviors in patients with depressive disorders

    Open Access•Wonsuk Choi, Hee‐Ju Kang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

These findings suggest that differential consideration of serum total cholesterol levels according to age group may have clinical utility for predicting suicidality in patients with depressive disorders. However, because our research participants came from a single-hospital, the generalizability of our findings may be limited

  • Correlations of psychological distress with plasma cytokine levels and gene mutations in acral and non-acral melanoma

Open Access•Hong Euy Kim, Hyun Jung Shim et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Psychological distress was associated with plasma cytokine levels and depression- and cytokine-related gene mutations. Using psychiatric intervention and emotional support, cytokine levels related to melanoma can be changed, which may have positive effects on the prognosis and treatment of melanoma. More careful follow-up, evaluation, and management are needed for patients with gene mutations

  • Childhood Abuse, Social Support, and Long-Term Pharmacological Treatment Outcomes in Patients With Depressive Disorders

    Open Access•Ju-Yeon Lee, Ju‐Yeon Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Synergistic interactive effects of child abuse and social support levels on treatment outcomes in depressive patients were found during long-term pharmacotherapy. Thus, depressed patients with a history of childhood abuse may require specialized clinical approaches, including social support, to enhance the long-term treatment outcomes

  • Serotonin modifies the impact of sleep disturbance on suicidality in patients with acute coronary syndrome

    Open Access•Jae‐Min Kim, Jae-Min Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Evaluating sleep disturbance and serum serotonin levels could improve the accuracy of clinical predictions of suicidal ideation in the acute and chronic phases of ACS

  • Relationship Between Economic Loss and Anxiety During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic

    Open Access•Hyerim Jang, A‐La Park et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

In the early stages of COVID-19, lower levels of gratitude and higher perceived stress led to greater anxiety. In later stages of the prolonged pandemic, only perceived stress had a continued moderating effect on the relationship between economic loss and anxiety. This study suggests that psychological interventions to reduce perceived stress are needed to treat the possible adverse effects of the spread of infectious diseases on mental health

  • Prediction of Suicidality According to Serum Folate Levels in Depressive Patients Receiving Stepwise Pharmacotherapy

    Open Access•Jae‐Min Kim, Jae-Min Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Background: The effects of serum folate levels on suicidal behavior, strongly associated with depression, have not been investigated. Therefore, this study investigated the associations between serum folate levels and suicidal behavior in patients with depressive disorders. Methods: Serum folate levels were measured at baseline in 1,094 patients with depressive disorder, 884 of whom were followed during a 12-month period of stepwise pharmacothera…

  • The Psychology of Food Cravings in Patients With First-Episode Psychosis

Open Access•Young-Hyuk Kim, Seunghyong Ryu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Objectives: Food cravings may cause weight gain in patients with schizophrenia. This study investigated psychological characteristics associated with food cravings in patients with first-episode psychosis. Methods: This study analyzed data from a clinical cohort of first-episode psychosis patients taking antipsychotics for 3 months or less. The strength of food cravings was measured using the General Food Cravings Questionnaire-Trait (G-FCQ-T). P…
