  • Examining the associations among adults’ physical activity, serum cotinine, and the risk of metabolic syndrome

Open Access•Xiao Hou, Zan Gao et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

This study indicates a positive relationship between SC concentration and MetS risk, whereas higher PA energy expenditure was inversely associated with MetS risk. Moreover, the findings indicate a potential compensatory association between PA and SC levels in relation to MetS risk. These estimates are based on statistical modeling and should be viewed as illustrative approximations rather than definitive causal or prescriptive thresholds. Future …

Open Access•Liwen Du, Haoyu Xi et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

  • Brain alterations in adolescents with first-episode depression who have experienced adverse events: Evidence from resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging

    Open Access•Xiaodi Xia, Tang Jin-xiang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

This study contributes novel evidence on the underlying process between adverse life events, brain function, and depression, emphasizing the significant neurophysiological impact of environmental factors

  • Modeling the effects of vaccination, nucleic acid testing, and face mask wearing interventions against Covid-19 in large sports events

Open Access•Zeting Liu, Huixuan Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

The transmission of SARS-CoV-2 leads to devastating COVID-19 infections around the world, which has affected both human health and the development of industries dependent on social gatherings. Sports events are one of the subgroups facing great challenges. The uncertainty of COVID-19 transmission in large-scale sports events is a great barrier to decision-making with regard to reopening auditoriums. Policymakers and health experts are trying to f…

  • The influence of exercise interventions on cognitive functions in patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Open Access•Rong Wang, Hanyue Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

  • An exercise prescription for patients with lung cancer improves the quality of life, depression, and anxiety

Open Access•Juntian Lei, Jianyu Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Introduction Lung cancer has the highest rates of morbidity and mortality among all cancers. Patients with lung cancer inevitably confront psychosocial discomforts and progressively experience depression and anxiety that potentially impact the clinical outcomes [e.g., quality of life (QoL)]. These mental disorders in patients with lung cancer may effectively be alleviated with prescribed Chinese traditional mind-body exercises. This study aimed t…

  • The effect of different types of physical activity on cognitive reaction time in older adults in China

Open Access•Yujie Liu, Xiao Hou et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Introduction Aging is not only reflected in the degeneration of physiological functions but is also embodied in the decline of psychological and cognitive functions. The decline of cognitive function can reduce the quality of life in older adults, and even potentially cause Alzheimer's disease, which may lead to a heavy burden on patients, families, and society. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of physical activity (PA) on…

  • The Gender Difference in Association between Home-Based Environment and Different Physical Behaviors of Chinese Adolescents

Open Access•Xiao Hou, Jingmin Liu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

There is significant gender difference in adolescents' physical behaviors and home-based environmental characteristics, as well as in the association between adolescents' physical behaviors and their home-based environment. The PA availability, the parents' role-modeling of PA in same-sex parent-child dyads, and the parents' policies around PA in opposite-sex parent-child dyads can significantly promote adolescents' healthy physical behaviors

  • Epidemiological Study on the Dose–Effect Association between Physical Activity Volume and Body Composition of the Elderly in China

Open Access•Xiao Hou, Zhengyan Tang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate Chinese old adults’ different body compositions in response to various levels of physical activity (PA). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate the dose–response relationship between PA and body composition in old adults. Methods: 2664 participants older than 60 years (males: n = 984, females: n = 1680) were recruited for this cross-sectional health survey. PA was…
