Home‐Rearing Environment, Domain-General Skills, and the Development of Math Skills in Children: A Longitudinal Study
The home-rearing environment, characterized by the organization of social interactions, material resources, and learning activities in the home context, plays a pivotal role in supporting children’s acquisition of domain-specific math skills and domain-general skills such as language and executive functions. Yet, research on the long-term associations between the quality of the home-rearing environment and the development of math skills in young …
Profile-specific SCL-90-R symptom networks in Chinese university students: Out-of-sample validation in three annual cohorts (2022–2024)
Executive function and Chinese preschoolers' early mathematical skills: The indirect role of patterning and spatial skills
Early mathematical skills are robust predictors of later academic achievement. However, few studies have examined the indirect roles of cognitive factors in the association between executive function (EF) and early mathematics. The present study investigated whether preschoolers' patterning and spatial skills play indirect roles in the association between EF and subsequent mathematical skills. A sample of 281 Chinese preschool children ( M age = …
Home‐Rearing Environment and Early Math Achievement: Longitudinal Mediation Through Children’s Self-Regulation and Math Anxiety
Research Findings: This longitudinal study examined the relationship between the home-rearing environment and children’s math achievement and the potential mediating roles of children’s self-regulation and math anxiety. Families play a crucial role in supporting children’s school readiness, with early math achievement being a particularly important component. Although existing studies highlight the beneficial effects of the home-rearing environme…
Academic stress, cognitive appraisal, academic self-efficacy, and academic anxiety among Chinese college students: A moderated mediation model
The mental health of higher education students is recognized as a significant public health concern globally. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between academic stress and academic anxiety among Chinese college students, examining the mediating role of cognitive appraisals and the moderating role of academic self-efficacy. A total of 959 students from three colleges in Sichuan and Liaoning Provinces par…
Longitudinal relationships between perceived stress and loneliness among Chinese college students during the Covid-19 pandemic: A three-wave cross-lagged study
Perceived stress and loneliness are major psychological challenges for college students, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although prior longitudinal studies suggested that loneliness predicts perceived stress, evidence remains inconsistent due to methodological limitations and conflicting results. This study employed a three-wave longitudinal design over a 13-month period and applied two cross-lagged panel models—the RI-CLPM and the RI…
Teacher–Student relationships and academic grades in Chinese high schools: The roles of perceived teaching quality and students’ mental health symptoms
The findings indicated that TSRs were positively associated with students' perceptions of teaching quality, and that perceived teaching quality was significantly associated with academic grades. However, TSRs were not directly associated with academic grades. Students' mental health symptoms moderated the association between perceived teaching quality and academic grades
Maternal depression and children’s behavioral self-regulation: The role of parenting and children’s screen time
Family processes such as maternal parenting and family screen exposure are significantly related to children’s gains in behavioral self-regulation, but the potential mechanism of these relations remains unknown. In this study, we investigated how maternal depression is associated with children’s behavioral self-regulation through the mediating role of maternal supportive parenting and children’s family screen time. A total sample of 657 Chinese c…
Home‐rearing environment and preschoolers’ academic and behavioral competence: The indirect role of children’s screen time
The home-rearing environment (HRE) is significantly related to preschoolers’ academic and behavioral development. Children’s screen time has become an increasingly important aspect of the family environment in today’s digital age. However, few studies explored screen time’s indirect role in the relationships between HRE and children’s development. This study was conducted in three provinces of China, and 825 child-parent dyads participated. The r…
