  • How households engage with digital voice assistants in everyday family life

Open Access•Jeni Paay, Jesper Kjeldskov et al.•ARTICLE•Behaviour and Information…•2026

Digital voice assistants (DVAs), combining intelligent personal assistants with smart speakers, are having a renewed uptake in domestic computing driven by technological advances and increasing personal use. However, it is still not well understood how people interact with them as part of everyday family life. This paper provides an empirical understanding of how DVAs are being perceived and used in a household context. Contributing to the body o…

  • Benign Convulsions with Mild Rotavirus and Norovirus Gastroenteritis: Nationwide Data from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service in South Korea

Open Access•Dong Hyun Kim, Dong Jun Ha et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2021

There have been no large-scale studies on the epidemiology of benign convulsions with mild gastroenteritis (CwG) since the introduction of the rotavirus vaccine in South Korea in 2007. This study aimed to analyze the trends in rotavirus gastroenteritis (RVGE) and rotavirus-associated CwG (RaCwG) after rotavirus vaccination. Further, we aimed to analyze changes in norovirus gastroenteritis (NVGE) and norovirus-associated CwG (NaCwG) using nationwi…

  • Development of a Chatbot Program for Follow-Up Management of Workers’ General Health Examinations in Korea: A Pilot Study

Open Access•Byeong Jin Ye, Ju Young Kim et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

    (1) Background: Follow-up management of workers' general health examination (WGHE) is important, but it is not currently well done. Chatbot, a type of digital healthcare tool, is used in various medical fields but has never been developed for follow-up management of WGHE in Korea. (2) Methods: The database containing results and explanations related to WGHE was constructed. Then, the channel, which connects users with the database was created. A …

  • Association of Air Pollutants with Incident Chronic Kidney Disease in a Nationally Representative Cohort of Korean Adults

Open Access•Seo Yun Hwang, Seogsong Jeong et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

    (1) Background: There is limited information regarding association between long-term exposure to air pollutants and risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) (2). Methods: This study acquired data of 164,093 adults aged at least 40 years who were residing in 7 metropolitan cities between 2002 and 2005 from the Korean National Health Insurance Service National Sample Cohort database. CKD risk was evaluated using the multivariate Cox hazards proportiona…

  • Normal Predicted Reference Values for Spirometry in Korean Children and Adolescents

Open Access•Dong Hyun Kim, Jeong Hee Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2020

Pulmonary function tests are useful to evaluate airway obstructions and bronchial responsiveness. We aimed to determine the reference values applicable to Korean children and adolescents. In total, 5590 (2607 males, 2983 females) healthy children aged 4 to 17 years old were recruited from three regions in Korea. Simple and multiple regression analyses were applied using age, height, and weight as variables to predict the forced vital capacity (FV…

Open Access•Dong Hyun Kim, Yeong Seok Lee et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Using nationwide data from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment service, we assessed the impact of rotavirus vaccines, introduced in South Korea, in 2007, on changes in the prevalence of factors (age, sex, and geographic location) associated with rotavirus gastroenteritis (RVGE) and rotavirus-associated benign convulsions with mild gastroenteritis (RaCwG). We analyzed health records of children younger than 3 years who visited clinical faci…

Open Access•Dong Hyun Kim, Dae Hyun Lim et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Background: The aims of this study were to investigate the prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) and the accuracy of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) questions for diagnosis of AR, in Korean children. Methods: Students that participated in an allergic disease prevalence survey in 2010−2017 were evaluated ( n = 18,425) using questionnaires and a skin prick test (SPT). Age-stratified (5-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-16 years…

  • Household and area income levels are associated with smoking status in the Korean adult population

    Open Access•Woo-Jun Yun, Jung-Ae Rhee et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

The results showed that smoking is strongly associated with household income status in both men and women, and area-level income is partly associated with smoking. Effects of area-level income on smoking differed by sex and region. These findings suggest that area characteristics have contextual effects on health related behavior independent of individual characteristics
