  • Who Benefits from Costa Rica's Climate Change Response Policies

Hyun Jin Choi, Jiyoun Park et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of international area…•2025

  • Intercity-scale linkage of cold-season PM 2.5 and emissions over South Korea

Open Access•Jihoon Seo, Daeok Youn et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2025

Although national emission control policies have contributed to long-term reductions in PM 2.5 levels, responses across neighboring cities remain heterogeneous, complicating the evaluation of policy effectiveness. This study diagnoses the spatial structure and examines temporal evolution of intercity-scale (tens of kilometers) and neighborhood-scale (a few kilometers) PM 2.5 components, separated from background variation including long-range tra…

  • Precipitation-induced abrupt decrease of Siberian wildfire in summer 2022 under continued warming

    Open Access•Yeonsoo Cho, Jin‐Ho Yoon et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2024

Wildfires in Northeast (NE) Siberia have become more frequent owing to the warming climate, exerting a profound impact on the global carbon cycle. While an increase in global temperature is recognized as a primary driver of unprecedented wildfires, the role of precipitation during wildfire season is relatively unexplored. Here, we present evidence that an increase in summer precipitation led to a sudden decrease in NE Siberian wildfires, especial…

  • The Signal of Post Catch-up in Open Innovation Dynamics

Open Access•Jinhyo Joseph Yun, Xiaofei Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•Science Technology and Society•2023

The digital transformation can serve as a window of opportunity for those late-comers who are equipped with the capability to create complementary assets for grabbing new opportunities of technological leapfrogging as a way of catch-up while penalising the forerunner. In this context, we want to answer the following research question. Is there any difference in open innovation effect on the firm according to the changing of belonging sectorial in…

  • Regional characteristics of fine aerosol mass increase elucidated from long-term observations and Korus-AQ campaign at a Northeast Asian background site

Open Access•Saehee Lim, Meehye Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2022

Northeast Asia has suffered from severe PM2.5 pollution and the exact mechanisms have yet to be fully understood. Here, we investigated the transformation processes of submicron aerosols using a 4-year data set obtained at Jeju, a Northeast Asian background site. The diurnal-cycle constrained empirical orthogonal function analysis of nanoparticle size–number distribution distinguished 2 modes: burst of nucleation–Aitken particles and increase in …

  • Association between Job-Related Factors and Work-Related Anxiety, and Moderating Effect of Decision-Making Authority in Korean Wageworkers

    Open Access•Sang‐Woo Kim, Jung-Hee Ha et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Among the factors causing workers' anxiety, job-related factors are important since they can be managed. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the association between work-related anxiety and job-related factors among Korean wageworkers using data from the Fifth Korean Working Conditions Survey. Participants were 13,600 Korean wageworkers aged <65 years. We analyzed the association between job-related factors and work-related anxiety, and the mo…

  • Chun Jin's Charismata of the Spirit

    Sang‐Woo Kim, Sangwoo Kim•ARTICLE•Wesley and Methodist Studies•2020

Chun Jin was a twentieth-century Methodist spiritual healer, visionary, and prophet, who served as a director of Daehan Sudowon, the first prayer mountain in Korea, for more than forty years. Overcoming the traumatic experience of the Japanese occupation of Korea and the Korean War, Chun established this ministry of prayer and healing on a remote mountainside in Cherwon. While staying far from the centre of political and ecclesiastical power, she…

  • Recent weakening of the southern stratospheric polar vortex and its impact on the surface climate over Antarctica

Open Access•Hataek Kwon, Hyesun Choi et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2020

The variability in the southern stratospheric polar vortex (SSPV) and its downward coupling with the troposphere are known to play a crucial role in driving climate variability over Antarctica. In this study, SSPV weakening events and their impacts on the surface climate of Antarctica are examined using in-situ observation and reanalysis data.Combining criteria from several previous studies, we introduce a new detection method for SSPV weakening e…

  • Evaluation of simulated O3 production efficiency during the Korus-AQ campaign

    Open Access•Yujin J Oak, Rokjin J Park et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2019

We examine O3 production and its sensitivity to precursor gases and boundary layer mixing in Korea by using a 3-D global chemistry transport model and extensive observations during the KORea-US cooperative Air Quality field study in Korea, which occurred in May–June 2016. During the campaign, observed aromatic species onboard the NASA DC-8 aircraft, especially toluene, showed high mixing ratios of up to 10 ppbv, emphasizing the importance of arom…

  • List-Assisted RDD Sampling in Korea

    S-W Kim, Sang‐Woo Kim et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Public…•2011•References: 2

In spite of the changing environment in telephone surveys due to the recent increase of households with cell phones only, landline phone frames in many countries still play an important role in their sample designs to select representative populations. The studies on random digit dialing (RDD) landline frames, which were much influenced by the past developments of RDD sampling methods in the United States, have been conducted in some countries in…
