  • Strabo's lived-in worlds: A conversation piece

Open Access•Bonfiglioli, Stefania Bonfiglioli et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Historical Geography•2025

The main themes addressed by the authors of this conversation piece are the following: why Strabo, a Greek geographer of the Augusto-Tiberian period, can still be relevant today in ongoing debates and how Strabo has shaped the world and his narrative of the world. Particular attention is paid to the tradition of Strabo’s Geography in the early modern period as well as to some of Strabo’s key concepts, such as chora and oikoumene (lived-in world)

  • Heritage as threshold: An autoethnographic exploration of the porticoes of Bologna (Italy)

    Open Access•Bonfiglioli•ARTICLE•Cultural Geographies•2025

The contents and aims of this paper derive from an autoethnographic exploration of the porticoes of Bologna, which in 2021 became part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. It was the difficulty of their candidacy process, which is not usual for Italian urban heritage, that shaped my concern with them. I conducted empirical research by walking under the porticoes in order to understand the reasons behind their otherness as official heritage and how …

  • Landscape and its possible “new” relevance: Ethics and some forgotten narratives on human mobility

    Open Access•Bonfiglioli•ARTICLE•Geographica Helvetica•2023

This article aims to provide a reinterpretation of the concept of landscape and to investigate, in some respects, its possible “new” relevance. More specifically, the analysis of “new” theoretical resources of landscape – “new” as they are yet to be explored – is linked here to an alternative interpretation of some neglected pathways of its history. I argue that the possible “new” relevance of landscape also lies in some forgotten ethical narrati…

  • Moral re-turns in geography. Chora: On ethics as an image

    Open Access•Bonfiglioli•ARTICLE•Progress in Human Geography•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 34

This paper focuses on the geographical notion of chora, i.e. the earth as ethically shaped by human practices, according to my interpretation of Strabo’s Geography. I argue that this chora is bearer of a logic of the included third/middle, as it coincides with the logico-semantic third way of Plato’s notion of image. Re-interpreting today’s geographical turns in the light of a re-turn to Strabo’s chora/image, I argue that this return is moral, in…

  • Simboli, voci, oggetti et similia. Note di discussione su: F. Lo Piparo, Aristotele e il linguaggio. Cosa fa di una lingua una lingua, Roma-Bari, Laterza, 2003

    Open Access•Costantino Marmo, Bonfiglioli•ARTICLE•Histoire Épistémologie Langage•2003•References: 1
