Palliative care patients’ attitudes and openness towards psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for existential distress
This pilot study provides insights into the attitudes and concerns toward PAT among patients with incurable illnesses. Over half of participants expressed interest. However, concerns regarding its use were identified, with patients' concern for the risk of exploitation associated with PAT as an especially novel concern documented in this patient population. This highlighted the need for further education of risks and benefits or PAT by trained cl…
Explaining the influence of non‐shared environment ( NSE ) on symptoms of behaviour problems from preschool to adulthood
BACKGROUND: Individual differences in symptoms of behaviour problems in childhood and adolescence are not primarily due to nature or nurture - another substantial source of variance is non-shared environment (NSE). However, few specific environmental factors have been found to account for these NSE estimates. This creates a 'missing NSE' gap analogous to the 'missing heritability' gap, which refers to the shortfall in identifying DNA differences …
Using DNA to predict behaviour problems from preschool to adulthood
BACKGROUND: One goal of the DNA revolution is to predict problems in order to prevent them. We tested here if the prediction of behaviour problems from genome-wide polygenic scores (GPS) can be improved by creating composites across ages and across raters and by using a multi-GPS approach that includes GPS for adult psychiatric disorders as well as for childhood behaviour problems. METHOD: Our sample included 3,065 genotyped unrelated individuals…
Creative expressiveness in childhood writing predicts educational achievement beyond motivation and intelligence
BACKGROUND: Creativity is linked with educationally relevant constructs such as achievement, intelligence, and motivation. However, very few studies have explored longitudinal links between the constructs or the aetiology of individual differences in childhood creativity. AIMS: The study addresses the gap in the literature of developmental studies on the relationship of creativity with other educationally relevant measures. Additionally, the pres…
Is Housing Diversity Good for Community Stability? Evidence from the Housing Crisis
This article explores the connections between the housing diversity of a community and its home foreclosures for a period before the peak in the national home foreclosure rate and its home sales for a period after the peak. We measure housing diversity as a mix of existing housing units by type and, separately, as a mix of zoned residential densities. We carefully select and analyze fourteen US metropolitan statistical areas. Using multivariate a…
Smart growth characteristics and the spatial pattern of multifamily housing in US metropolitan areas
This paper examines the relationship between smart growth policies and other social and physical characteristics and the supply of multifamily housing units in 202 core-based metropolitan statistical areas (CBSAs) in the USA. Data for this study were gathered from the GeoLytics Neighborhood Change Database for the 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2010 US Census. The smart growth characteristics of each CBSA are determined by a smart growth index and a catalo…
The high heritability of educational achievement reflects many genetically influenced traits, not just intelligence
Significance Differences among children in educational achievement are highly heritable from the early school years until the end of compulsory education at age 16, when UK students are assessed nationwide with standard achievement tests [General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE)]. Genetic research has shown that intelligence makes a major contribution to the heritability of educational achievement. However, we show that other broad domai…
