  • Evaluating the Effect of Listeners' Response on Speakers' Later Recollection and Impression of the Story

Open Access•Sanae Salus, Tomoya Kita et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•2021

The purpose of this study was to investigate a listener's role in a speaker's later recollection and impression of the story through a story‐retelling method. Two experiments were conducted, and listener responses were manipulated in each experiment in different ways. Experiment 1 examined the effect of a listener's attitude toward story retelling, and Experiment 2 studied the effect of a listener's subtle nonverbal reaction to a specific part of…

  • Avoidance Behavior Prevents Modification of Fear Memory During Reconsolidation

Open Access•Yusuke Nitta, Toru Takahashi et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2018

Several studies have revealed that fear recovery is prevented when extinction training is conducted after retrieval of a fear memory. Postretrieval extinction training is related to modification of memory during reconsolidation. Providing new information during reconsolidation can modify the original memory. We propose that avoidance behavior is a relevant factor that prevents subjects from obtaining new safety information during reconsolidation.…

  • The contradictory effects of nostalgic advertisements on nostalgia for products and on remembering advertisements1

Open Access•Eriko Sugimori, Ken Matsuda et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•2011

Our purpose was to investigate the relationships between the names of items that easily evoke nostalgic feelings and nostalgic advertisements from the perspective of nostalgia for the names of these items and from the perspective of source monitoring. We measured the effect of nostalgia on source monitoring and whether the names of items evoked nostalgic feelings when they were presented alone. We found that, from the perspective of the nostalgic…

  • The effects of aging on nostalgia in consumers' advertisement processing

Open Access•Takashi Kusumi, Ken Matsuda et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•2010

We investigated the triggers and functions of nostalgia in consumers' processing of television advertisements in relation to aging. Study 1 explored the contents and triggers of nostalgic experiences by requesting 451 undergraduates to write four different nostalgic descriptions (of scenes, songs, events, and commercials). An analysis of the descriptions using text mining revealed that nostalgic reactions occur in response to events that had been…

  • The effects of cognitive activity and perceptual details on speech source monitoring

    Open Access•Eriko Sugimori, Yoshihiko Tanno•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•2010•References: 34

Our purpose in this study was to investigate the effects of cognitive operations and perceptual details on speech source monitoring. In Phase 1, correctly spelled words and anagrams were presented in Expt 1. Words were read aloud by participants, by a same‐sex voice, or by an opposite‐sex voice. Immediately after Phase 1, in Phase 2, participants were asked whether each word had been read aloud by the participants themselves, by a same‐sex voice,…

  • Schizotypal personality traits and prediction of one’s own movements in motor control

Open Access•Tomohisa Asai, Eriko Sugimori et al.•ARTICLE•Consciousness and Cognition•2008

  • Relationship between Cue Word Activation and Prospective Memory Performance

    Open Access•Eriko Sugimori, Takashi Kusumi•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2008

The interaction of cue-word specificity in instructions and cue-word familiarity on prospective performance was examined. Exp. 1 was based on a typical prospective memory paradigm using familiar and unfamiliar cue words. Prospective memory performances under general and specific instruction conditions were compared. In Exp. 2, the relationship found in Exp. 1 was further investigated based on the activation of cue words and prospective memory per…
