Mortality from venous thromboembolism among young women in Europe
STUDY OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether there has been an increase of venous thromboembolism (VTE) mortality in European countries, concurrent with the replacement of second generation by third generation combined oral contraceptives (COCs). Such an increase has been predicted, and reportedly detected, because published studies have detected an increased incidence of VTE associated with third generation rather than second generation COC use. DESI…
Characteristics of items in the Eysenck Personality Inventory which affect responses when students simulate
A large sample of students completed Form A of the Eysenck Personality Inventory, and four subgroups were later asked to simulate extraversion, introversion, neuroticism or stability. It was found that subjects could simulate these four personalities successfully. The changes in individual item responses were correlated with the items' factor loadings, validity, response bias, and detectability. The different scales and types of item were conside…
An Analysis of the Items of the Eysenck Personality Inventory
An item analysis was carried out on Forms A ( n = 200) and B ( n = 252) of the Eysenck Personality Inventory (EPI) in order to establish how well the items perform. The method was, for each scale, to compare the mean total score of the people who said ‘yes’ to each item with the mean total score for the people who said ‘no’. The differences between the means were tested for significance, and it was found that some items had no significant differe…
Detectability of Items in the Eysenck Personality Inventory
Fifty university students completed Form B of the Eysenck Personality Inventory, and were then asked to indicate which items were measures of neuroticism (N), extraversion (E) and lying. Almost all items were correctly detected, and detectability of items as N and E items was highly correlated with their factor loadings Correct detection of N items was not related to N factor loadings, but correct detection of E items was related to E factor load…
