  • The effect of red color on perceived self‐attractiveness

Open Access•Anne Berthold, Gerhard Reese et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•2017•References: 25

Recent research showed that individuals are perceived as more attractive when presented with the color red. We seek to extend these findings by studying the effects of red color on individuals' perception of self‐attractiveness, rather than the attractiveness of others. Based on the color‐in‐context theory, we hypothesized that individuals would perceive themselves as more attractive under red chromatic conditions. In three experiments, participa…

African Americans have experienced several shifts in the predominant terms used to describe their ethnic identity in the past several decades. A current taxonomy of African American labels and associated meanings for those labels was developed as a result of this study. The dominant terms, Black and African American, expressed different views of ethnic identity, with Black generally providing a sense of unity and acceptability and African America…

Judith Martin, J Thomas Payte et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychoactive Drugs•1991

The doctor-patient interaction in the methadone maintenance treatment clinic is qualitatively different from general medical settings. The patient presents with a specific request for treatment of opioid dependence, most often having already selected the methadone treatment modality, and the initial contact is centered around obtaining methadone. Addiction and needle use increase susceptibility to life-threatening illnesses, such as syphilis, end…
