  • Not all emotional expressions facilitate recognition of other-race faces in Chinese infants

Open Access•Shaoying Liu, Shenai Hu et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Research•2025

Previous research has shown that the addition of happy or angry expressions to other-race faces can assist infants in overcoming the perceptual narrowing of face race and reinstating their recognition of other-race faces. In the present study, we examined how different facial expressions (happy, angry, fearful, and neutral) influence the recognition of African faces among Chinese infants aged 8 to 12 months. We employed a visual familiarization t…

  • The impact of loneliness on depression during the Covid-19 pandemic in China

Open Access•Linlin Yan, Xuechen Ding et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2024

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many regions and countries implemented lockdowns and isolation to curb the virus’s spread, which might increase loneliness and lead to a series of psychological distress. This study aims to investigate the association between loneliness and depression during the COVID-19 pandemic and examine whether perceived social support and perceived internal control mediate the loneliness-depression relationship in China. Self-r…

  • Developmental changes in numerosity and area perception in school-age children

Open Access•Linlin Yan, Ping Qian et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2024

Humans can quickly estimate the quantity of objects in their environment through the Approximate Number System (ANS). However, the developmental trajectories of numerical and spatial perception in school-aged children are not well understood. This study aimed to address this issue by examining the performance of 7-year-olds, 9-year-olds, and 11-year-olds in the dot-number and dot-area tasks. In each trial, participants were presented with pairs o…

  • Regional asynchrony and eye region-specificity in part-based processing and holistic processing during face familiarization

Zhe Wang, Hao Ni et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2023

  • Blunted reward responsiveness prospectively predicts emotional distress when exposed to a naturalistic stressor

Open Access•Linlin Yan, Nils Kohn et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•2023•References: 83

Both stress and blunted reward responsiveness have been identified as core risk factors of depression. Whether blunted reward responsiveness increases psychological vulnerability to real‐life stress from a dynamic perspective (from stress reactivity to recovery) has not been investigated. By utilizing a real‐world stressful event (i.e. the final examination), this study aimed to explore the role of reward responsiveness in the stress‐emotional di…

  • The relationship between perceived stress and emotional distress during the Covid-19 outbreak

Open Access•Linlin Yan, Y Gan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Anxiety Disorders•2021

  • 知觉负载对注视知觉适应后效的影响

Yajun Zhao, Zhijun Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2018

During social communication, eyes gaze indicates the focus of people's attention. There are two types of gaze cue: direct gaze (straight) and averted gaze (left or right), which have different social functions. Previous researchers assume that gaze perception involves two different processing stages. The first stage refers to earlier visual feature analysis of eyes such as luminance contrast and geometry of white sclera and iris. The second stage…
