Excavation of a Roman road and discovery of a cup-and-ring marked stone near Crawford, South Lanarkshire
An archaeological excavation was carried out on a section of Roman Road in advance of the installation of an electrical cable between the Clyde windfarm and a substation at Elvanfoot. The road comprised a foundation of large cobbles and sub-rounded stones set directly onto the old ground surface, with the voids packed with angular coarse gravel.
