As we learn from Phaedo, Plato could not be present at the important philosophical conversation that took place on Socrates' last day, because he was ill, just as the unnamed fourth guest missed Timaeus' great speech because he was unwell. Derveni Papyrus
The Derveni papyrus, dated to 340–320 bce , is the oldest Greek literary papyrus. It was found in 1962, in a burial ground 12 km from Thessaloniki. In this paper we give a detailed reconstruction of the first chapter of De Caelo I.1. Aristotle attempts to prove there that bodies are complete and perfect in virtue of being extended in three dimensions. We offer an analysis of this argument and argue that it gives important insight into the role the notion of body plays in physical science. The paper first discusses the metaphysical framework that allows the soul's integration into the physical world. A close examination of B36, supported by the comparative evidence of some other early theories of the soul, suggests that the word psuchê could function as both a mass term and a count noun for Heraclitus. The cornerstone of Epicurus’ physics is atomism: Epicurus follows Democritus1 in maintaining that our world is ultimately composed of atoms and the void.
