Az athéni adólisták
The study deals with the inscriptions of the Athenian Tribute Lists, and highlights the tax list of 454/453 BC. For comparison, the list of 440/439 BC is examined. These lists are not only a valuable source of Athenian foreign policy and economy, but also, for example, for tracing changes in Athenian letter forms and their evolution

Három jezidi ima

Szent Hilarion és a kocsiverseny
The conversion from Paganism to Christianity was a slow process. Pagan magic was palpable reality for Christians, and they indeed took the field against it, as it is confirmed by the biography of Saint Hilarion. Hilarion (291–371) was a hermit and the founder of Palestinian monasticism. His biography was written by St. Hieronymus around 390 in Betlehem. Hilarion exorcised demons and healed the sick
Cariprazine Safety in Adolescents and the Elderly
Schizophrenia is a life-long mental disorder, affecting young adolescents to elderly patients. Antipsychotic treatment is indicated for all patients with schizophrenia, including the very young and old as well. Developmental issues in the young and decline in organ functioning in the elderly could influence reactions to the drug, and require different dosing regimens. The aim of the present article was to examine the safety profile and dosing req…

The Corpse Daemon Antinoos
On the basis of the preserved evidence, corpse daemons were practically employed in two specific fields: in love magic and in chariot racing. In this respect, the material of our sources seems significant: in Egyptian papyri the daemons are primarily used in erotic magic, whereas in lead tablets they are meant to manipulate chariot races. The study examines all known occurrences of nekydaimones, analyzing their functions and names, whenever refer…

Thirty Tyrants, at Athens
The Thirty Tyrants (404–403 BCE ) were an Oligarchy that overthrew the Athenian democracy and sent hundreds of Athenians to their deaths during its eight‐month rule (Xen. Hell . 2.4.21; [Arist.] Ath. Pol . 35.4).
On Solon's Land Reform
The land-law of Solon can be divided into two parts: on the one hand it is a seisachtheia (the shaking off of burdens), which is the extracting of border-stones in the “serving land” (and has nothing to do with indebtedness), and on theother hand it is therepurchase of citizens who had been unlawfully sold abroad. The legal status of the social class called hektemoroi was similar to that of the helots in Sparta and the penestai in Thessaly. The h…

Xenophon der Lügner
Xenophon calls Sokrates prytanis in the Hellenica and epistates in the Memorabilia. The Hellenica is a historical work, therefore it adheres more to reality. In the Memorabilia he intently exaggerates his master's role so that his opposition to the outraged populace may appear a more magnificent act - this suits the genre of the Memorabilia better. He places the state-description of the Lakedaimonion politeia into the times of Lycurgus, the half …

Die Anzahl der Hopliten 404 v. Chr. und die Grösse der Armee der Dreissig Tyrannen
In 404 B.C. there were at least 8000 hoplites in Athens, still the thirty tyrants confined franchise to 3000 hoplites. Possession was not the only condition of franchise, but loyalty to the system was one as well. It is clear, however, from Xenophon's Hellenica that the 300 hippeis were not included in that number. Thus the leadership structure during the time of the thirty would be 3000 hoplites, 300 hippeis and 30 leaders
Skylax. A Gem Carver in Politics
The Tarragona Museum is in possession of a gem engraved with a satyr-citharode dressed as Hercules (Nr. 7543). The gem, according to the inscription, is the work of Scylax, an engraver at the court of Claudius and Nero. With the figure of the satyr-citharode, Scylax expressed his disapproval of Nero, the tyrant who proclaimed himself a great sportsman and artist

Metics in Athens
At present we are aware of 8209 inhabitants of Attica who were of foreign origin ( metoikoi ), slaves, or freemen. The places of origin of 7367 are known. The foreign inhabitants of Attica were from 380 different cities or territories, but, in the 5th century B.C., the geographic horizon was largely limited to the member states of the Delian League and the states closest to Attica. Of those metoikoi whose occupations we know, comparatively few we…
