  • Log-Linear and Configural Analysis of Intra-Individual Time Series under Consideration of Serial Dependence

Open Access•Alexander Von Eye, Wolfgang Wiedermann et al.•ARTICLE•Integrative Psychological and…•2024•References: 12

  • Which is Better for Individual Participant Data Meta-Analysis of Zero-Inflated Count Outcomes, One-Step or Two-Step Analysis? A Simulation Study

Open Access•David Huh, Scott A Baldwin et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•2023

  • Increases in social support co-occur with decreases in depressive symptoms and substance use problems among adults in permanent supportive housing

    Open Access•Zhengqi Tan, EUN‐YOUNG MUN et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2021

This study suggests that plausibly, increases in social support, though slowing over time, still positively impact depressive symptoms and substance use problems among PSH residents. Future PSH programs could emphasize social support as an early component as it may contribute to clients' overall health

  • A comparison of Bayesian to maximum likelihood estimation for latent growth models in the presence of a binary outcome

Open Access•Su-Young Kim, David Huh et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Latent growth models (LGMs) are an application of structural equation modeling and frequently used in developmental and clinical research to analyze change over time in longitudinal outcomes. Maximum likelihood (ML), the most common approach for estimating LGMs, can fail to converge or may produce biased estimates in complex LGMs especially in studies with modest samples. Bayesian estimation is a logical alternative to ML for LGMs, but there is a…

  • The association between protective behavioral strategies and alcohol-related problems

Nickeisha Clarke, Su‐Young Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnicity in Substance…•2015

This study examined race and gender differences in use of specific types of protective behavioral strategies (PBS) and the moderating effects of race and gender on the relationship between PBS use and alcohol problems, controlling for alcohol use, among a large sample of Asian, Black, and White college drinkers. There were significant racial and gender differences in the types of PBS used. Moderation analyses indicated that PBS were more protecti…

  • Granger Causality—Statistical Analysis Under a Configural Perspective

Open Access•Alexander Von Eye, Wolfgang Wiedermann et al.•ARTICLE•Integrative Psychological and…•2014•Cited by: 1•References: 24

  • Exploring the Intersection of Neighborhood Racial and Economic Composition and Individual Race on Substance Use Among Male Adolescents

Courtney Cronley, Helene Raskin White et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnicity in Substance…•2012

This article examines how Blacks and Whites living in neighborhoods with divergent racial and income profiles differed in early onset (by age 14 years) and adolescent lifetime prevalence (by age 18 years) of substance use, with longitudinal data from 473 high-risk boys (58% Black). A latent profile analysis identified four neighborhood classes: Black, lower-income; racially mixed, middle-income; White, middle-income; and White, upper-income. Biva…

  • A Configural Approach to Predicting the Shape of Trajectories

Alexander Von Eye, Eun-Young Mun et al.•ARTICLE•Applied Developmental Science•2012

Many developmental pathways and trajectories are far from universal. In this article, configural methods are proposed that allow one to test hypotheses about differential developmental trajectories. Trends in categorical variables are discussed. A simulation study is presented in which it is shown that (1) all conceivable patterns of trajectories can be characterized configurally, and (2) even when the null hypothesis of independence of repeated …

  • Developmental Patterns of Alcohol Use in Relation to the Persistence and Desistance of Serious Violent Offending Among African American and Caucasian Young Men

Open Access•Helene Raskin White, Chioun Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Criminology•2012•Cited by: 4•References: 57

This study examined the association of alcohol use with the persistence and desistance of serious violent offending among African American and Caucasian young men from adolescence into emerging adulthood. Five violence groups were defined: nonviolent, late‐onsetters, desisters, persisters, and one‐time offenders. We examined alcohol use trajectories for these groups spanning 12 through 24/25 years of age using a four‐piecewise linear growth model…

  • Substance Use Trajectories of Black and White Young Men from Adolescence to Emerging Adulthood

Chioun Lee, EUN‐YOUNG MUN et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnicity in Substance…•2010

This study examined trajectories of substance use among Black and White young men (N = 983) from adolescence to emerging adulthood using two-part growth curve analysis. Controlling for parental socioeconomic status, Blacks were significantly less likely to use alcohol and hard drugs than Whites at age 17 and drank significantly fewer drinks. The alcohol prevalence gap between Blacks and Whites further increased over time. Blacks in the older coho…

  • Temporal Patterns of Variable Relationships in Person-Oriented Research

Alexander Von Eye, Eun Young Mun et al.•ARTICLE•Applied Developmental Science•2009

Longitudinal Configural Frequency Analysis (CFA) seeks to identify, at the manifest variable level, those temporal patterns that are observed more frequently (CFA types) or less frequently (CFA antitypes) than expected with reference to a base model. This article discusses, compares, and extends two base models of interest in longitudinal data analysis. The first of these, Prediction CFA (P-CFA), is a base model that can be used in the configural…

  • Temporal patterns of variable relationships in person-oriented research

Alexander Von Eye, Eun Young Mun et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2008•Cited by: 1•References: 1

This article reviews the premises of configural frequency analysis (CFA), including methods of choosing significance tests and base models, as well as protecting alpha, and discusses why CFA is a useful approach when conducting longitudinal person-oriented research. CFA operates at the manifest variable level. Longitudinal CFA seeks to identify those temporal patterns that stand out as more frequent (CFA types) or less frequent (CFA antitypes) th…

  • Finding groups using model-based cluster analysis

    Eun Young Mun, EUN‐YOUNG MUN et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2008•Cited by: 5•References: 4

Model-based cluster analysis is a new clustering procedure to investigate population heterogeneity utilizing finite mixture multivariate normal densities. It is an inferentially based, statistically principled procedure that allows comparison of nonnested models using the Bayesian information criterion to compare multiple models and identify the optimum number of clusters. The current study clustered 36 young men and women on the basis of their b…

  • Temperamental characteristics as predictors of externalizing and internalizing child behavior problems in the contexts of high and low parental psychopathology

    Open Access•Eun Young Mun, EUN‐YOUNG MUN et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•2001•Cited by: 2•References: 37

This study investigated whether the relationships between dimensions of early child temperament and externalizing and internalizing behavior problems differ in relation to the degree of parental psychopathology to which children are exposed. In addition, the reciprocal relation between externalizing and internalizing behavior problems, and stability patterns (i.e., autoregression) of externalizing and internalizing behavior problems were investig…
