  • Free will and (in)determinism in the brain

Open Access•Louis Vervoort, Tomasz Blusiewicz•ARTICLE•THEORIA An International Journal…•2020

In this article we study the question of free will from an interdisciplinary angle, drawing on philosophy, neurobiology and physics. We start by reviewing relevant neurobiological findings on the functioning of the brain, notably as presented in (Koch 2009); we assess these against the physics of (in)determinism. These biophysics findings seem to indicate that neuronal processes are not quantum but classical in nature. We conclude from this that …

  • The CMT Model of Free Will

    Open Access•Louis Vervoort, Tomasz Blusiewicz•ARTICLE•Dialogue•2020•References: 16

We propose a compatibilist theory of free will in the tradition of naturalized philosophy that attempts to: 1) provide a synthesis of a variety of well-known theories, capable of addressing problems of the latter; 2) account for the fact that free will comes in degrees; and 3) interface with neurobiology. We argue that free will comes in degrees, and that these degrees vary with the agent's capacity to make assumptions and use theories. Our model…

  • La causalité revisitée à la lumière de la mécanique quantique

    Open Access•Louis Vervoort•ARTICLE•Dialogue•2013•References: 8
