  • Learning about migration decisions from the migrants

Open Access•Olympia Bover, Manuel Arellano•ARTICLE•Journal of Population Economics•2002•Cited by: 3

  • Unemployment Duration, Benefit Duration and the Business Cycle

    Open Access•Olympia Bover, Manuel Arellano et al.•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2002•Cited by: 4•References: 20

In this paper we study the effects of unemployment benefit duration and the business cycle on unemployment duration. We construct durations for individuals entering unemployment from a longitudinal sample of Spanish men in 1987--94. Estimated discrete hazard models indicate that receipt of unemployment benefits significantly reduces the hazard of leaving unemployment. At durations of three months, when the largest effects occur, the hazard for wo…

  • Another look at the instrumental variable estimation of error-components models

    Open Access•Manuel Arellano, Olympia Bover•ARTICLE•Journal of Econometrics•1995

  • Estimating Intertemporal Labour Supply Elasticities Using Structural Model

    Olympia Bover•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•1989

In this paper, the author proposes empirical models where both the intertemporal substitution elasticity and the elasticities measuring the impact of different wage profiles are estimated taking into account the restrictions derived from utility maximization. She considers models assuming a Stone Geary utility function and also a constant elasticity of substitution across periods function. The data used are a sample of men from the Michigan Panel…
