  • Isotopes and isoscapes for Australian archaeology

Open Access•Michael I Bird, Matthew Harris et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026

Isoscapes are important for studies of provenance, migration and diet. • Isoscapes the Australian continent now exist for H, C, N, O, S, Sr, Nd and Pb. • We review the factors controlling isotope variation across Australia. • The development of isoscapes for multiple isotope systems provides new opportunities for archaeology in Australia. Both stable and radiogenic isotope analyses are widely applied in archaeological science to examine questions…

  • The Anatomy of U.S. Sick Leave Schemes

Open Access•Christopher J Cronin, Matthew C Harris et al.•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•2026

We study how public school teachers use paid sick leave. Most US sick leave schemes operate as individualized credit accounts: Paid leave is earned, and unused leave accumulates. We construct a unique dataset of daily leave balances and behavior among 982 teachers for 2010–2018. Sick leave use increases during flu season, and evidence indicates that the average teacher does not use sick leave for leisure, though some subsets of teachers (e.g., th…

  • Do in-kind grants stick? The department of defense 1033 program and local government spending

    Open Access•Donald Bruce, Donald J Bruce et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Urban Economics•2019•References: 20

  • Reference Health and the Demand for Medical Care

    Open Access•Matthew Harris, Matthew C Harris et al.•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 40

We propose that health in prior periods, termed reference health, is theoretically and empirically relevant to the demand for medical care. To address non‐normality in the distributions of medical care spending, consumption, and health, we use a conditional density estimator nested in a finite mixture framework. We find that reference health can help explain the variation in spending among individuals with the same contemporaneous health, particu…
