  • Nitrates, water and salt

    D S G Pollock•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Science Reviews•2007•References: 4

In this essay, we examine the circumstances that are conducive to the maintenance of the fertility of agriculture in the various environments in which it is practiced. The fertility of the soil is dependent on an ample supply of nitrogen compounds and on a variety of other nutrients and trace elements. The supply of nitrates by natural means has posed a limit to productivity since the inception of agriculture; and the avoidance of soil salination…

  • Circulant matrices and time-series analysis

    D S G Pollock•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2002

This paper sets forth some of the salient results in the algebra of circulant matrices which can be used in time-series analysis. It provides easy derivations of some results that are central to the analysis of statistical periodograms and empirical spectral density functions. A statistical test for the stationarity or homogeneity of empirical processes is also presented

  • The Methods of Time-Series Analysis

    D S G Pollock•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Science Reviews•1987•References: 1

Over the past twenty years, the subject of time-series analysis and signal processing has been developing rapidly. This is attributable not only to theoretical advances but also the advent of powerful computer technology. In spite of its modernity, the subject has undergone a lengthy evolution. This review gives an account of the principal mathematical themes of time-series analysis, and it outlines some of the recent history of the subject
