Populations, Samples, Randomness, and Replication in Two Social Studies Journals
The purpose of this study was to determine if research in social studies education reflected the same lack of attention to population and sample definitions and description, to randomness, and to replication that the authors found in a previous review of articles in the American Educational Research Journal over a ten-year period. The Comrey Validity Check Scale as a Predictor of Reliable Personality Test Data
Usefulness of the Comrey Validity Check scale score as an index of random or indiscriminate responding to the Comrey Personality Scales was evaluated on a sample of 7960 Navy paramedical personnel. Corrected split-half reliability coefficients were employed to assess the internal consistency of item responses, since it was assumed that random responders would provide inconsistent answers to the Comrey items. An examination of personality scale re…
Assessing the Psychosocial Characteristics of Occupational Training Environments
Two forms of the Insel & Moos' Work Environment Scale (WES) were administered to 589 Navy enlisted men and women, one at the beginning of a 14‐week paramedical training course (assessing expectations of what the occupational training environment would be like) and one eight weeks later (assessing perceptions of what the environment was actually like). Ten of the factors extracted from student responses to each form were rotated to simple structur…
Reliability and Stability of the Comrey Personality Scales
Split-half and retest reliabilities were computed on Comrey Personality Scales administered to 153 Navy Hospital Corpsmen on two occasions separated by about 5 mo. Corrected split-half reliabilities for the 8 personality trait scales were between .66 and .94, with an average of .87, on the first administration and between .68 and .94, with an average of .85, on the second administration. Retest reliabilities for these eight scales were between .5…
