  • Magistrates, Madonnas, and Miracles

    C S Dixon, Carl Dixon•ARTICLE•The English Historical Review•2012

In this book, Trevor Johnson manages to do two things that do not always come naturally in studies of this kind. On the one hand, he has produced a work of exacting scholarship that draws on a specific case-study—in this instance the Upper Palatinate—in order to shed light on the process of religious reform. Primary sources, from parish documentation to polemical pamphlets, crowd the footnotes. At the same time, however, the book is extremely nua…

  • Ad historiam humanam. Aufsatze fur Hans-Christoph Rublack

    C S Dixon•ARTICLE•German History•2009

Ad historiam humanam is a tribute to the work of the German Reformation historian Hans-Christoph Rublack. A commemorative volume rather than a Festschrift in the strict sense of the term, the contributions have few obvious historiographical or methodological points of intersection. The common thread in the volume is the work of Rublack, and in particular how his approach to the Reformation may have informed or inspired the research of the various…
