    Elodie Bordat-Chauvin•ARTICLE•Participations•2024

  • De)politicising Argentinian cultural policy? an analysis of Macri’s cultural policy (2015–19)

    Elodie Bordat-Chauvin•ARTICLE•Cultural Trends•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 2

How can the “political dimension” of cultural policies in Argentina during Macri’s term be analysed? Politicisation is understood as a “mechanism of (re)qualification of activity and/or an attempt to exceed the limits of the sectorisation of activities”. Whether social or cultural, activities are qualified as political, and thus disqualified by some members of Macri’s government. To what extent has the “requalification” of the socio-cultural prog…

    Open Access•Elodie Bordat-Chauvin•ARTICLE•Alteridades•2020

Based on Albert Hirschman’s 1970-developed theoretical framework and Bajoie’s 1988 amendments, this article discusses the different types of behavior that were observed during several-months-long participant observation in an Argentine Ministry of Culture program which had its funding gradually taken away. “Loyalty” is the preferre…

  • Changing philosophies of action? Argentine’s cultural policies in the 21st century

Rubens Bayardo, Elodie Bordat-Chauvin•ARTICLE•International Journal of Cultural…•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 3

How can the many institutional and ideological changes of Argentine cultural policy at the beginning of the 21st century be explained? This paper analyses how representations of culture, programs and public actions are translated into different ‘philosophies of action’ depending on the political stripe of each government and the agents of cultural policy. If the predominant philosophy of action during the whole period is ‘culture as an economic r…

  • Cultural Policies and Change

    Open Access•Elodie Bordat-Chauvin•ARTICLE•Latin American Policy•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 6

This article examines the changes that neoliberalism brought to the Mexican and Argentine cultural policies. Did the neoliberal turn of the 1980s and the deepening of the reforms in the 1990s have the same effects in both countries? The findings of this article show that neoliberalism had a greater effect on cultural policy in Mexico because, since the Miguel de La Madrid administration in 1982, all governments have deepened neoliberal policies. …

This paper analyses the process of institutionalization of Mexican cultural policy and its evolution after the political alternation of 2000. It demonstrates that since its institutionalization with the creation of the National Council for Culture and Arts in 1988, the objectives, definitions and bureaucratic organization of the cultural policy have not known important changes in the period studied (1988–2006). The inertia observed in Mexican cul…
