The law of diminishing returns in climate policy
This study investigates the conditional effects of fossil fuel-related taxes on CO2 emissions across 38 OECD countries from 2008 to 2022 by the moderating roles of GDP per capita and energy-related green innovation, specifically testing the hypothesis of diminishing returns in OECD fixed panel analysis. After validating the environmental Kuznets curve, it reveals that the mitigation effect of fossil fuel taxes exhibits diminishing marginal return…
Distribution of Freshwater Plant Communities and Halophytes in Coastal Region, Muan-gun, South Korea
The distribution of freshwater plant communities and the relationships between them and sand dunes, salt marshes, and reclaimed lands of the southwestern coasts of South Korea was studied along with plant factors. Competitor (C), stress tolerator (S), and ruderal (R) (CSR) ecological strategies were also evaluated. To elucidate the relative significance of competition, stress, and disturbance (CSR) in the distribution process of plant communities…
Banal Koreanness
This article analyses how three South Korean multicultural-themed reality television programmes discursively produce Koreanness. We ground our study in scholarship on 'othering' and the notion of banal nationalism (Billig, 1995) and conduct a thematic analysis of the shows. Our findings show that the programmes adopt a Korea-foreign dichotomy that becomes a lens through which viewers can vicariously experience the existence of a unified South Kor…
Producing multiculturalism
This article examines the role of production techniques in shaping representations of cultural diversity in South Korean reality television. We first discuss the South Korean government’s evolving guidelines concerning the representation of minorities on television and identify in the guidelines exhortations against discriminatory framing of migrants. Next, we qualitatively examine three popular multicultural-themed reality television shows and d…
HIV-related symptoms and patient clusters among Chileans living with HIV
Identifying both Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-related and co-morbid symptoms experienced by people living with HIV (PLWH) who are receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) treatment is a major challenge for healthcare providers globally. Yet, little research to date has examined the symptoms of illness experienced by PLWH including patients living in Central and South American. To address this gap, this study was designed to identify symptoms …
Early Child Maltreatment, Runaway Youths, and Risk of Delinquency and Victimization in Adolescence
This article examines whether running away from home mediates the link between child maltreatment and later delinquency and victimization in adolescence. Specifically, the authors tested the hypothesis that childhood physical and psychological abuse increase the risk of a child's running away from home by the time of adolescence. Running away from home is, in turn, hypothesized to increase the risk of delinquency and victimization. Childhood sexu…
