The role of negative parenting on mental distress among South Korean youth
Measures of family process
Using data from three interrelated studies of Korean adolescents in South Korea ( N = 524; M age = 14.98), China ( N = 267; M age = 15.24), and the United States ( N = 408; M age = 14.76), this study tested the psychometric properties and measurement invariance of multiple measures of family process, including those originally developed for subgroups of Asian Americans and commonly used Western measures. The results showed excellent psychometric …
Associations of secondary victimization and social reactions with PTSD symptoms among young adult female survivors of sexual assault in South Korea
Parental Academic Socialization and Youth Adjustments

Patterns and correlates of co‐occurrence among multiple types of child maltreatment
This study examined the patterns and correlates of the types of maltreatment experienced by adolescents aged 9-12, participating in an ongoing longitudinal study on the impact of neglect on children's development. Using case record abstraction, the study compared the child protection classification and findings from the case record abstraction with regard to the rates of four types of maltreatment (i.e. physical, sexual, emotional abuse and negle…
Impact of youth cultural orientation on perception of family process and development among Korean Americans
Results show that identity and behavioral enculturation in one's heritage culture are predictors of bonding with parents, which is notably protective for youth. The results highlight the critical effect of enculturation in enhancing youth perception of the parent-child relationship. Behavioral acculturation to mainstream culture, in contrast, predicts youth problems, although the effect may not necessarily always be via family processes. Similarl…
The role of culture in theories of the intergenerational transmission of violence
The intergenerational transmission of violence has been one of the most rigorously researched hypotheses in violence research in recent decades. A number of previous studies have provided evidence supporting this hypothesis, and there has been a growing body of literature investigating its mechanism. However, the role of culture in the intergenerational transmission of violence has not received much research attention, and thus, it remains largel…
