Gender differences in the associations between cognition and expectations regarding aging
Emerging evidence has reported associations between more negative views on aging and poorer performance on cognitive tasks. However, findings have been inconsistent. Gender differences and the cognitive status of participants may help explain these discrepancies. This study therefore investigated (a) the associations of gender, presence of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and their interaction with expectations regarding aging (ERA, a measure ass…
Variation in real world dementia risk profiles according to demographic characteristics in 6171 adults drawn from the Australian CogDrisk website
We aimed to evaluate differences in dementia risk profiles according to age, birthplace and First Nations status. The sample included 6171 (62% female, 12). High rates of multiple risk factors were identified and varied according to age group and birthplace. This study provides evidence for tailoring risk reduction intervention and advice by age and birthplace
Development and Validation of the Perceived Interpersonal Relevancy Scales
Results support this new measure of perceived interpersonal relevance appraisals, which shows relationships between the way we believe others perceive us, loneliness, and social isolation. The PIRS likely has wide utility for studies that seek to understand the intersections between human social cognition, well-being, and health across the lifespan
Gender differences in cognitive development in cohorts of young, middle, and older adulthood over 12 years
Understanding gender differences in human cognitive development may contribute to understanding the gender differences in outcomes in cognitive ageing. However, evaluation of this topic has been hindered by a lack of representative, longitudinal data from different aged cohorts measured on the same cognitive tests. Gender differences in cognitive abilities were evaluated in three population-based cohorts (baseline age-span 20 to 76, 52% female, 9…
