  • Neonatal stimulation and accelerated maturation in Balb/c mice

    Christine K Stein, Richard C LaBarba•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•1977•References: 1

  • The Effects of Maternal Separation, Isolation and Sex on the Response to Ehrlich Carcinoma in Balb/c Mice

Richard C LaBarba, Joel Lazar et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1972

BALB/c mice were weaned from their mothers at either 14, 17 or 21 days of age. At 21 days all animals were either isolated or paired with a cagemate of the same sex. At 45 days the mice were inoculated with 0.2 ml of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma. Weight changes and survival time were recorded. Animals housed in pairs survived significantly longer than did those housed individually. A significant sex difference was also found, with males surviving lo…

  • Maternal Deprivation and the Response to Ehrlich Carcinoma in Balb/c Mice

    Richard C LaBarba, Jerry L White•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1971

Four of 8 newborn litters of BALB/c mice, each containing 6 pups, were subjected to a maternal deprivation paradigm in which the mothers were removed for 20 hours per day for 18 days. The other 4 litters served as controls. At 60 days of age, all animals were inoculated with 0.2 cu cm of Ehrlich carcinoma. After implantation, all animals were weighed daily until death, with weight increases and survival time recorded for each animal. Maternally d…

  • Experiential and Environmental Factors in Cancer

    Richard C LaBarba•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1970

The animal research dealing with experiential and environmental factors in cancer is reviewed. Despite the absence of a systematic approach to the role of psychologic factors in the pathogenesis of tumor states, it is concluded that the scientific evidence strongly supports the notion that center in animals can be influenced by experiential manipulations, and that further research afforts by psychologists are empirically justified

  • Effects of early cold stress and handling on the growth of Ehrlich carcinoma in Balb/c mice
