Family Size, Birth Order, Sex and Social Interest
This study of relations of family size, birth order, sex, and social interest for 125 volunteer subjects yielded no significant relationship among birth order, sex, and social interest. Family size was related to social interest; persons coming from small families had higher Social Interest scores than persons coming from large families. The findings are discussed with regard to internal consistency of these constructs within Alfred Adler's theor…
Early Recollections of Neurotic Depressive Patients
Early recollections of 25 neurotic depressive patients were significantly different from those of 25 control subjects. The recollections of neurotic depressive patients suggested more disturbed relationships with family members, more references to incidents that elicited fear, anxiety, or other negative affects, and little acceptance of responsibility for what happens in their memories. If confirmed for a much larger sample, such signs might be u…
Early Recollections of Schizophrenics
Early recollections of schizophrenics were investigated for differences among diagnostic categories which may be used for differential diagnosis. On four “clusters” the content of such recollections on “themes” was significantly different. Furthermore, paranoid schizophrenics mentioned “new situations” in the “theme” of their recollections more frequently than other schizophrenic subtypes
Relationship among Differences in Fantasy Pattern, IQ, and Sex-Role Adoption
This study investigated (a) the age at which boys and girls begin to show differences in patterns of fantasy, (b) the relationship between differences in these patterns and factors such as intelligence, manifest aspects of sex role (in forms of teachers' ratings of masculinity for boys and femininity for girls), and presence or absence of the father at home. The results suggest that from the age of 8 or 9 yr. on, a difference emerges between patt…
Early Recollections, Present Crises, and Future Plans in Psychotic Patients
To assess relationships among early recollections, present crises, and future goals 118 hospitalized patients with different psychiatric diagnoses were interviewed about problems, plans and two early childhood recollections. Relationships among these recollections, present crises, and future plans were identified and recorded for each patient by two psychologists. There was a greater frequency of relationships between early childhood recollection…
Unobtrusive Detection of Signs of Potential Juvenile Delinquency
The study determined whether school records contain data which would help to identify those children who are most likely to become delinquents. The names of 108 delinquent children were obtained from juvenile court records. Each was matched according to sex, grade level, and school attended with a non-delinquent. From the cumulative school records data were collected on notable change and estimates of academic performance and achievement level, t…
