Vulnerability-Stress-Adaptation model of relationship satisfaction
This study tested the Vulnerability-Stress-Adaptation (VSA) model of change in relationship satisfaction in a highly stressful context (i.e., the pandemic lockdown). We examined whether conflict resolution strategies (i.e., own situational withdrawal, perceived partner demands and perceived partner use of positive problem-solving strategies), confinement-specific variables (i.e., space for oneself, changes in sleep, social life routines and sport…
Trauma and journalist’ safety
The safety of journalists covering conflict goes beyond their physical protection. It includes the psychological impact of repeated exposure to traumatic events. This study employs a mixed methodology across two complementary studies to analyse how revictimization, coping strategies, and working conditions affect the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in journalists. In Study 1 (qualitative) we conducted 24 in-depth interviews t…
Follow-up study of benefit finding in multiple sclerosis and health-related quality of life. The effect of anxiety and emotion-focused coping strategies
OBJECTIVE: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease that causes major disability and has a negative impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). However, benefit finding even when suffering uncontrollable and unpredictable diseases such as MS has been associated with adjustment perhaps because of its relationship with more frequent use of emotion-focused coping strategies (CS). Therefore, using a two-time-point follow-up design, thi…
Problem-Focused Coping Strategies Used by Victims of Gender Violence Across the Stages of Change
This study compares the problem-focused emotion regulation strategies used by 200 female survivors of intimate partner violence (age: M = 40.16, SD = 11.27, 18 - 66 years) to cope with violence throughout various stages of change (SOC). It examines the relationship between problem-focused coping strategies and positive and negative affect, and the impact of these variables on the different SOC. Results suggest that victims differ and are flexible…
Age differences in emotion regulation during ongoing affective life
A well-documented finding in aging and emotion research is that older adults reliably report less negative and, often, more positive affect than younger adults. How older people accomplish this is, however, an open question. We propose that this age effect is the result of differential use of emotion regulation strategies, especially when affective states call for them. We assessed a wide range of emotion regulation strategies over 2 months of da…
Off- and Online Heterosexual Dating Violence, Perceived Attachment to Parents and Peers and Suicide Risk in Young Women
Dating violence (DV) is a public health problem among young people, especially women. It involves violent acts towards one's partner and occurs face-to-face (offline) or through the Internet (online). Offline DV is linked to suicidal ideation and attachment to parents and peers. Fewer studies analyze the psychological and social consequences of online DV. This study tests the link between young women's DV victimization (off- and online), suicide …
Coping Strategies Used by Female Victims of the Colombian Armed Conflict
The effects of armed conflict on women in post-conflict situations are an area of analysis for social disciplines. This study will analyze the situation in Colombia, currently involved in a peace restoration process. The aim is to verify the efficacy of a coping and emotion regulation program analyzing victimization as well as the coping strategies employed in response to these violent acts. The program focuses on 62 women contacted through the R…
