Research Review
In this research review, we present approaches and recommendations for assessing early‐life adversity and childhood trauma aligned with two leading conceptual models of adversity: cumulative risk and dimensional models. We summarize the measurement implications of each conceptual model and common approaches for assessing early‐life adversity in studies utilizing each of these models. We consider other critical components in the assessment of earl…
Early and later susceptibility to effects of parenting
This study tests Frankenhuis and Panchanathan's (2011) evolutionary commitment hypothesis by examining individual differences in susceptibility to the effects of parenting during early and late childhood. Drawing from the Future of Families and Child Well-Being Study ( N = 4,898; 2,342 girls; White/Black/Latinx/other = 590/1,601/813/261) and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Study of Early Child Care and Youth Developme…
Deprivation and psychopathology in the Fragile Families Study

Here, we evaluate a theoretical model linking early deprivation exposure with psychopathology prospectively through language ability. METHODS: Participants included 2,301 youth (47.5% female) enrolled in the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study.…
