    Open Access•Zhijian Li, Z Y Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2026

Background Academic inbreeding has a dual influence on performance by potentially enhancing collaboration or fostering exclusion. Therefore, we aimed to comprehensively analyze the impact of academic relationships on the research and clinical output of medical personnel in a tertiary hospital in China. Methods This study collected data from 2009 until 2020 from various departments of a tertiary training hospital. Information collected from variou…

  • Imagery Rescripting induced transient forgetting of negative autobiographical memories

Zekai Du, Cheng Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Memory•2026

Imagery Rescripting (ImRs) is a promising intervention for treating emotional disorders associated with distressing autobiographical memories, but its impact on memory recall requires further investigation. This study, based on the retrieval competition hypothesis, proposes a previously overlooked theoretical mechanism, that the process of creating and rehearsing therapeutic imagery in ImRs may require the inhibition of original negative memory r…

  • The developmental trajectories of working memory updating from early childhood to adolescence

Open Access•Ye Song, Chen Cheng•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•2026

Working memory updating is a crucial cognitive function for learning and academic achievement that develops significantly throughout childhood and adolescence. Despite the varieties of existing tasks to measure children's working memory updating, its overall developmental trajectory and task‐specific developmental patterns remain inadequately understood. This meta‐analysis examined 99 studies ( N = 35,858 participants) on working memory updating …

  • What Kinds of Computations Can Young Children Perform Over Non-Symbolic Representations of Small Quantities

    Open Access•Chen Cheng, Melissa M Kibbe•ARTICLE•Open MIND•2025

Children can manipulate non-symbolic representations of both small quantities of objects (about four or fewer, represented by the parallel individuation system) and large quantities of objects (represented by the analog magnitude system, or AMS). Previous work has shown that children can perform a variety of non-symbolic operations over AMS representations (like summing and solving for an unknown addend), but are not able to perform further opera…

  • A comprehensive study of hip dislocation

Open Access•Xu Zheng, Cheng Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Objectives: Hip dislocation is a critical clinical emergency that demands immediate intervention to prevent complications such as avascular necrosis, nerve damage, and long-term joint dysfunction. As population demographics evolve-with aging populations and increasing urbanization-and injury patterns shift due to factors such as road traffic accidents, sports-related injuries, and occupational hazards, the need to update our understanding of the …

  • A Contrastive Study of English and Chinese Temporal Metaphors from the Perspective of Culture

    Open Access•Chen Cheng•ARTICLE•Review of European Studies•2014•References: 1

Time is an abstract concept which is invisible and intangible. The traditional framework of contrastive studies of English and Chinese temporal metaphors are at three basic levels-“spatial metaphors”, “ontological metaphors” and “structural metaphors”. However, this framework is obscure in boundaries and overlapping in areas. Therefore, on the basis of rhetorics, this research is carried out in a novel framework from the perspective of culture on…

Children must therefore rely on working memory to store information from the environment and to update those stored representations as the environment changes. Previous work suggests that the ability to store information in working memory increases through infancy and childhood. However, less is known about the development of …
