“The Lover’s Confession”
Losing Louisiana
Coastal erosion and relative sea level rise (RSLR) are rapidly destroying archaeological sites in the Mississippi River Delta. Anthropogenic transformations of the environment and the cumulative effects of global climate change are intensifying and accelerating the processes of site erasure. Thousands of terrestrial sites on natural levees, barrier islands, and other coastal landforms are being eroded, redeposited, buried, and submerged by RSLR. …
Soil policy principles and a policymaking framework using the soil security concept
There is a growing demand for more soil-centric policies to ensure sustainable land management and soil security. The concept of soil security enhances our understanding of soil multifunctionality as a comprehensive framework for soil protection. Utilising the soil security concept in policymaking can substantially improve the consistency and harmonisation of regional and global policies related to soil security. This paper reviews the fundamenta…

Two Possible Gilbertine Fragments at the University of Manitoba
This article concentrates on the fragments used to bind a copy of Vitruvius’s De Architectura printed in Strasburg in 1550 and now held at the University of Manitoba. It begins by exploring the possibility, on textual grounds, that these fragments were made for use by the Gilbertine order. Very few manuscripts connected to this order have been identified, and few seem likely to have survived the dissolution of the monasteries in England. Whereas …

Les groupes Balint au Royaume-Uni, soixante ans après The Doctor, the Patient and the Illness
An analysis of a Natchez gunflint assemblage from the lower Mississippi valley and its implications for eighteenth-century colonial economic interactions
Archaeological analyses of European lithic technologies in North America are often discussed anecdotally within the context of other material evidence of European occupations. In North America, the presence of gunflints manufactured in Europe, generally England (which became part of Great Britain in 1707) or France, is used as a marker for the influence of these European powers and as a reflection of from whom residents obtained their material cu…

Democratisation or the democratisation of corruption? The case of Uganda
The state of corruption
The aim of this article is to provide an evaluation of Uganda's current strategy to fight corruption. Like many countries on the African continent, Uganda has deemed it necessary to make attempts to reduce and control corruption within the public sector. As awareness of the deleterious and debilitating effects of corruption has grown, so too have both internal political factors and external pressures from aid donors increased in order to push for…

A Transforming Faith
Over the course of the twentieth century, evangelicals have in a variety of ways adjusted their world view to accommodate the changes in modern life. At the same time, there are important continuities between the ideas and attitudes of evangelicals in the 1920s and those of the late 1970s. Little attention has actually been paid to changes in this important social and political group since the Scopes trial and the election of 1976, when evangelic…
