Michael O'Dea : Rousseau Against Rameau. Music and Nature in the Encyclopédie Articles and beyond. This study suggests that Rousseau's four hundred articles on music for the Encyclopédie have been unjustly neglected. After sketching Rousseau's musical education and recounting his humiliation by Rameau in 1745, the author goes on to argue that Rousseau devoted considerable energy and skill to sustained attacks on Rameau in these articles.
