  • Affecting and spatializing future(s) among young entrepreneurs in the South Italy

    Open Access•Letteria G Fassari, Massimo Blandini•ARTICLE•Futures•2024•References: 15

Predominantly set within the sociological framework, this essay focuses on the intersection dynamics between the construction of the future and the constitution of space in the case of young entrepreneurs from southern Italy. The analysis is based on thirty biographies of young people from three major regions of southern Italy: Calabria, Campania and Sardinia. For the most part, these young people have decided, after gaining experience abroad, to…

  • The Quality of Public Space Among Hybrid Nature-Ruins

    Open Access•Paolo Do, Letteria G Fassari•ARTICLE•Quaderni di Sociologia•2023

In the attempt to understand spatial transformations in contemporary society and to frame the quality of public spaces, the article proposes the empirical case study of Lago Bullicante located in Rome (Italy) where a recent and unplanned event, initiated with an illegal development of an abandoned factory, has turned a ruined industrial area into a ‘Natural Monument’.We will consider this area as a hybrid which cannot be classified as natural, no…

  • Oltre il realitysmo. Una mappa dell'esperienza mediale contemporanea

    Letteria G Fassari•ARTICLE•SOCIOLOGIA E RICERCA SOCIALE•2017

  • ‘Realityism’ as melancholic storytelling to cope with contemporary risk

    Letteria G Fassari•ARTICLE•Health Risk & Society•2016

In this article I examine the hypothesis that many young people’s propensity to participate in a reality show is related to social risk and uncertainty in planning their lives. This hypothesis underpins the concept of ‘realityism’ as a strategy hybridising the real and the imaginary. In this article I draw on data from a study of 719 video interviews of aspiring participants in the 2011/2012 ‘Big Brother’ reality show (Italian edition), conducted…
