Katrien Berte, Philip Leroux et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Digital…•2010•References: 4

Advanced innovations such as digital transmission technologies and personal video-recorders (PVRs) have changed TV viewing behaviour. In order to maintain their position as the world's largest advertising channel, television broadcasters are increasingly dependent on accurate and in-depth audience data. This article examines the empirical findings of recent studies and analyses the coverage of the Kosovo war in the Flemish daily press

Open Access•Els De Bens, Hedwig De Smaele•ARTICLE•European Journal of Communication•2001•Cited by: 17•References: 3

Empirical research in the 1970s and 1980s revealed the dominant position of American fiction on European television, in consequence of which the term `Dallasification of television content' was launched. By the end of the 1990s the situation had not changed drastically. The results of our programme analysis from 1997, in which the origin of films and series on 36 public and commercial channels from six European countries was traced, confirmed (1)…

  • Cable Penetration and Competition among Belgian and Foreign Stations

    Open Access•Els De Bens•ARTICLE•European Journal of Communication•1986•Cited by: 3•References: 1

The effects of programme abundance as a result of cable should be observable in the most densely cabled country in Europe — Belgium — where most viewers have a choice of 11 to 15 channels. Time series data on audience behaviour in the Flemish-speaking part of the country demonstrate the strength of pre-existing patterns of TV utilization, slowness of change, the dominant influence of linguistic barriers and community divisions in channel choice; …
