Landscape and sediment processes in a proglacial valley, the Mittivakkat Glacier area, Southeast Greenland
Geografisk Tidsskrift, Danish Journal of Geography 108(1):97–110, 2008 During the Little Ice Age (LIA), the present proglacial Mittivakkat Valley, stretching 1.5 km ENE-WSW from the terminus of the Mittivakkat Glacier tongue to a delta terminating in the Sermilik Fjord, Southeast Greenland, was transgressed by the glacier as indicated by a terminal moraine near the valley mouth. The first recordings of the glacier terminus in 1933 show a frontal …

De-icing progression of ice-cored moraines in a humid, subpolar climate, Kötlujökull, Iceland
Modes and rates of de-icing ice-cored moraines under humid subpolar conditions have been determ ined for two dead-ice fields of different age representing a mature and a final stage of collapse in the Kötlujökull terminus region, south Iceland. The melting processes considered are backwasting, defined as the lateral retreat of near-vertical ice walls, or steep, ice-cored slopes, and downwasting, defined as the thinning of the ice core by melting …
Origin, chronology and climatological significance of annual-moraine ridges at Myrdalsjökull, Iceland
Minor, transverse moraine ridges have formed annually at the retreating north margin of Myrdalsjökull, 550-600 m a.s.l., in south Iceland during the period 1928-1981. They are composed of slabs of clast-paved lodgement till and their formation at the glacier edge results from subglacial freezing-on of sediment slabs during winter and the annual cycle of ice-front activity. This type of annual-moraine ridge is likely to be characteristic of retrea…
Glacial geomorphological research at Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland, 1977–86. I
Krüger, J.: Glacial geomorphological research at Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland, 1977–86. I: the northern margin. Geografisk Tidsskrift 88:68–77. Copenhagen. 1988. The lithostratigraphic divisions of the glacier forefield are tentatively interpreted as responses to a glacier advance about the middle of the 18th century, a following retreat, and oscillations have been succeeded by a continuous retreat in the present century. Most recently the glacier is r…
