  • Impact of experimental light regimes on Antarctic fast-ice algal communities observed by combining ice coring and imaging spectroscopy

Open Access•Emiliano Cimoli, Fraser Kennedy et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2025

Antarctic landfast sea ice is an integral component of coastal and nearshore ecosystems, providing bottom-ice habitats that harbour some of the most productive marine microalgal communities on Earth. Ice algal biomass is driven by the spatio-temporal dynamics of snow and sea-ice covers, which control light transmission and strongly influence algal photophysiology. In this study, five 25 m2 translucent coloured panels (red, green, blue, black, and…

  • Sediment transport across a tidal divide in the Danish Wadden Sea

Niels Vinther, Christian Christiansen et al.•ARTICLE•Geografisk Tidsskrift-Danish…•2004•Cited by: 2•References: 28

Water and sediment transport were measured and calculated during a two months period on three locations at a 3 km long tidal divide in the Danish Wadden Sea. The water transport was flood dominated in the largest channel, almost neutral in the smaller channel and ebb dominated on the tidal flat. The tidal currents were short and strong during flood tide and long lasting but weak during ebb tide at all three stations. This tidal asymmetry caused t…

  • Enhanced settling velocities and vertical transport of particulate matter by aggregation in the benthic boundary layer

    Sabine Jähmlich, Lars Chresten Lund-Hansen et al.•ARTICLE•Geografisk Tidsskrift-Danish…•2002•References: 32

The importance of aggregation processes in the benthic boundary layer (BBL) with regards to settling velocities and flux of organic carbon was investigated at four stations on a coastal-depositional area transect in the southwest Baltic Sea. Water depths ranged between 15 and 46 m and stations were visited during eight cruises between October 1996 and December 1998. A specially designed bottom water sampler equipped with a particle camera system …

  • The Laberex chamber for studying the critical shear stress for fine-grained sediment

    Lars Chresten Lund-Hansen, Lars Chresten Lund–Hansen et al.•ARTICLE•Geografisk Tidsskrift-Danish…•1999•Cited by: 1•References: 22

Geografisk Tidsskrift, Danish Journal of Geography 99: 1–7, 1999 A new portable instrument, the Laberex chamber—LAB oratory ERosional EXperiments—for studies of the "fluff layer" and sediment critical shear stress is described. The chamber consists of a cylindric plexiglass tube with an inner diameter of 84 mm. A four-bladed impeller connected to a motor is placed in the centre of the chamber. Rotation of the impeller induces resuspension. Light …

  • Resuspension, Sediment Fluxes, and Suspended Sediment Diffusion Coefficients under Wave and Current Forcing in Two Coastal Environments

    Lars Chresten Lund-Hansen, Lars Chresten Lund–Hansen et al.•ARTICLE•Geografisk Tidsskrift-Danish…•1998•Cited by: 1•References: 25

Geografisk Tidsskrift, Danish Journal of Geography 98: 10–19. A stainless steel tripod equipped with five sediment traps placed at 0.35 m intervals above the seabed was deployed both in wave and current dominated shallow water environments. The length of tripod deployments varied between three and seven days. Sedimentation fluxes during resuspension in the wave-dominated environment ranged from 24.1 g m−2 day−1 at 1.75 m to 36.4 g m−2 day−1 at 0.…

  • Nutrient Dynamics in Southwestern Kattegat, Scandinavia

Carsten Jürgensen, Christian Christiansen et al.•ARTICLE•Geografisk Tidsskrift-Danish…•1997•References: 7

Geografisk Tidsskrift, Danish Journal of Geography 97: 1–10, 1997. The nutrient transport through southwestern Kattegat was predicted for a 4 year period using the numerical, hydrodynamic model “MIKE12”. Model results were validated through direct measurements of nutrient concentrations in the study area, and through measurements of total-P and total-N deposition and resuspension rates. The local terrestrial supply of nutrients makes up only 2–5%…
