  • Couple Therapy in Substance Use and Gambling Disorders: Promoting Health System Change

    Open Access•Bonnie K Lee, Robert Gilbert et al.•ARTICLE•Contemporary Family Therapy•2020•References: 1

  • The Impacts of Recreation Programs on the Mental Health of Postsecondary Students in North America: An Integrative Review

Fenton Litwiller, Catherine White et al.•ARTICLE•Leisure Sciences•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 5

The mental health of university students has become a recognized concern and lifestyle factors, including recreation, can play an integral role in maintaining positive mental health. The objective of this integrative review was to consolidate our understanding of the efficacy of post-secondary institution-based recreation programs developed with the purpose of supporting students’ mental health. Inclusion criteria included non-clinical population…

  • The Benefits of Recreation for the Recovery and Social Inclusion of Individuals with Mental Illness: An Integrative Review

Fenton Litwiller, Catherine White et al.•ARTICLE•Leisure Sciences•2016•Cited by: 18•References: 2

Previous research has shown the physical health benefits of physical activity for individuals with mental health challenges to their recovery, including reduced symptoms, weight reduction, and improved cardiovascular health. The focus of this previous research has excluded an exploration of the benefits of all types of recreation (including physical activity, creative pursuits, and social recreation) and the possibility of these benefits supporti…

  • Rapid changes in the level of Kluane Lake in Yukon Territory over the last millennium

    Open Access•John J Clague, Brian H Luckman et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2006

The level of Kluane Lake, the largest lake in Yukon Territory, was lower than at present during most of the Holocene. The lake rose rapidly in the late seventeenth century to a level 12 m above present, drowning forest and stranding driftwood on a conspicuous high-stand beach, remnants of which are preserved at the south end of the lake. Kluane Lake fell back to near its present level by the end of the eighteenth century and has fluctuated within…

  • Environmental reconstruction from a varve network in the southern Coast Mountains, British Columbia, Canada

    Open Access•Brian Menounos, John J Clague et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2005•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Cores of annually laminated sediments (varves) from five lakes in the southern Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada, document clastic sediment response to climate and geomorphic change over the past 120 years. Interannual varve thickness correlates with annual flood magnitude. Interdecadal trends in varve thickness are influenced by other environmental factors such as glacier recession. Despite major differences in the lakes and their cont…

  • A 750-yr record of autumn snowfall and temperature variability and winter storminess recorded in the varved sediments of Bear Lake, Devon Island, Arctic Canada

    Open Access•Scott F Lamoureux, Robert Gilbert et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2004

The varve record from High Arctic, proglacial Bear Lake reveals a regionally coherent hydroclimatic signal as well as complexities due to changing hydroclimatic and limnologic conditions. Varve formation is strongly dependent on underflows that exhibit variability in strength during the past 750 yr. Periods with reduced underflow sedimentation and accumulation rates fail to produce varves in the distal part of the lake. Isolated coarse silt and s…

  • Role of landscape parameters in riverine run-off, and sediment and organic matter yield on Disko Island, West Greenland

Morten Rasch, Niels Nielsen et al.•ARTICLE•Geografisk Tidsskrift-Danish…•2003•Cited by: 1•References: 17

Measurements of discharge and suspended sediment and organic matter yield from nine different drainage basins on the island Disko in central West Greenland were carried out in the period 19–30 July 1997. A series of landscape properties (glacier cover, altitude, slope, aspect and vegetation cover) were measured for each drainage basin from a digital elevation model and a satellite image. Principal Component Analysis and regression statistics have…

  • Marine Mollusca from Expedition Fiord, Western Axel Heiberg Island, Northwest Territories, Canada

Open Access•Alec E Aitken, Robert Gilbert et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•1996

Marine molluscs, including bivalves, gastropods and scaphopods, were recovered by dredging at depths of 3-82 m in Expedition Fiord, Axel Heiberg Island, Canada. Cluster analysis, based on presence/absence data at 27 stations, defined two mollusc associations within the fiord. A Portlandia-Thyasira association, characterized by the abundance of Portlandia arctica and Thyasira gouldi, inhabits silty clay substrates at depths of 32-82 m throughout t…

  • Quaternary Glaciomarine Sedimentation Interpreted from Seismic Surveys of Fiords on Baffin Island, N.W.T

    Open Access•Robert Gilbert, Robert G Gilbert•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•1985

Seismic reflection surveys using a compressed air source in nine fiords on Baffin Island provide information on the amounts of sediment deposited and the relation of sedimentation to events during late Quaternary glaciation. Five sedimentary facies can be recognised in the seismic records: (A) a basal facies of ice contact glacial sediment including moraines and deformed, stratified, glaciomarine sediment, (B) a lower glaciomarine facies of well-…
