The relationship between maternal psychopathology and maternal-fetal attachment
Our results suggest that women experiencing increased depressive, but not anxiety, symptoms in pregnancy, have a poorer quality of attachment to their child, although the effect size is small. Consequently, treating prenatal depression in women could have a positive effect on maternal-fetal attachment
Mom Supporting Mom
Objective: Untreated perinatal mental health disorders can have serious consequences for the whole family system. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of peer support intervention in improving postpartum psychological distress. Overthrowing Reality
In the 1980s, the youngest generation of artists to have been raised in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) experimented collaboratively to produce work in intermedial genres, with particular focus on synthesizing poetry and such visual arts as photography and printmaking. Drawing on the rich collection of East German samizdat artists’ books in the Getty Research Institute (GRI), this article examines diverse approaches to design integrating pho…
« Gegen-Haltung »
Paradigms of Refuge
This article examines a recent refugee novel, Jenny Erpenbeck’s Gehen, ging, gegangen ( Go, Went, Gone , 2015) in relation to debates on the refugees who have arrived in contemporary Germany in the context of the so-called “refugee crisis.” The article’s point of departure is Go, Went, Gone ’s rare pairing of GDR history and refugees – a pairing that deviates from usual discussions of former East Germany and distressed migration today. Such discu…
Producing a Future, Commemorating a Past
Scholarship has often ascribed to the third generation of East German writers associated with the Prenzlauer Berg scene (1979–89) a monolithic attitude of dissociation from the ‘really existing socialist state’. The present study reevaluates Prenzlauer Berg literary production in the light of its engagement with the transnational aesthetic and political projects of the avantgardes from before and after the Second World War, which continued to be …
