    The essay describes how aspects of signification of the sexual aesthetics of Der blaue Engel (The Blue Angel) are manifested through a multitude of artistic filmic components, especially through double entendres. An understanding of this additional semantic layer allows for a subtle reassessment of the film as a broader cultural critique of the human condition within its sociohistorical context
