  • Stepping up

Patrick Ryscavage, Lauren Herbert et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2022

Strategies are needed to optimize HIV health care transition (HCT). We describe HCT outcomes within the University of Maryland STEP Program, which is built upon integration of an adult HIV provider and navigator into the pediatric clinic, and coordinated collaboration between pediatric and adult HIV multi-disciplinary care teams. These outcomes were compared to a historical institutional HCT cohort (N = 50) which attempted transition in an earlie…

  • Naturalistic Research Into Subcultures and Deviance

    B Roberts•CHAPTER•Resistance Through Rituals•2002

NATURALISTIC RESEARCH INTO SUBCULTURES AND DEVIANCE Brian Roberts Apart from journalistic accounts, the study of sub-cultures has been, mainly, pursued within the framework of sociological inquiry rather than, say, within social history. But, for good and comprehensible reasons, the sociological study of ‘deviant subcultures’ has (like its subject-matter) been itself ‘deviant’ with respect to mainstream sociology. The ‘mainstream’ tradition in so…

Patients' (n = 101) experiences of Parkinson's disease (PD) were studied through structured interviews. Oblique factor analysis produced three moderately intercorrelated clusters of items reflecting reported severity of motoric, cognitive, and psychological problems, respectively. Scales formed from the factors were correlated with demographic, disease-related, and psychosocial variables. The demographic variables were not significantly correlate…

B Roberts, Blake Cameron Roberts et al.•ARTICLE•Ecquid Novi African Journalism…•1994

In this article the need for a change from media training to media development is discussed. The authors look at the concept of community media, and discuss the problems this form of media encounters. These include, among others, inconsistent membership, a shortage in resources, bad organization, too few and inexperienced trainers, as well as physical problems like geographical distances

  • Peasants and Proletarians

    B R Roberts, B Roberts•ARTICLE•Annual Review of Sociology•1990•Cited by: 12•References: 13

Peasants and proletarians are key actors in the social changes that produced the modern world. The concepts identify different forms of demographic behavior, social organization and political action. The peasant is locally oriented and defensive politically, yet has contributed to revolutionary change. The proletarian looks to association beyond locality and is the basis of modern class politics, but the political impact of the proletariat has va…
